Access Representative - Emergency Department

Summary: The Emergency Department Access Representative is responsible for registering all patients in both adult and pediatric emergency departments. This role involves completing the registration process for emergency patients and managing direct admits sent to the emergency department. Additionally, the representative collects patient liabilities upon discharge as appropriate. Education: Medical Terminology certification is required within 90 days of initial employment. Experience: One to two years of insurance or clerical experience in a hospital or medical office setting is preferred. Familiarity with insurance processes and payment collection is advantageous. Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and basic computer functionality is required. Requirements: Ability to type and perform data entry to meet departmental productivity standards. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential. Demonstrated customer service skills with diverse populations are preferred. Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and multitasking abilities are necessary to handle the dynamic needs of patients, families, and visitors. The role may require rotating shifts and regular days off. Physical demands include the ability to communicate orally, see, and hear to collect information, as well as dexterity to operate office equipment. The position involves extended periods of sitting or standing, exposure to low to moderate noise levels, frequent use of telephones, computers, and other business machines. Tasks include bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling file drawers, transporting patients, and assisting with baggage. Regular lifting or moving up to 10 pounds, frequent lifting up to 25 pounds, and occasional lifting up to 50 pounds are required. This position serves a regional area in the Southeastern United States, providing essential support in a busy emergency department environment.
