Job Title: MIG Welder – Aluminum and Steel Fabrication

Job Description

This role focuses on horizontal and vertical MIG welding on a variety of materials, primarily aluminum, within a high-volume manufacturing environment producing building products. You will perform production-style welding, inspect your own work, and occasionally use TIG welding to support a wide range of fabricated components.

Responsibilities

• Perform horizontal and vertical MIG welding on a variety of materials, including approximately 90% aluminum, 6% steel, and 3% stainless steel.
• Weld materials ranging from 18-gauge sheet to 3/8-inch thickness to meet production and quality requirements.
• Use multiple types of welding wire, including .360 wire, 4043 wire, 5356 wire, and .035 wire as needed for specific jobs.
• Perform a small amount of TIG welding when required to support production and special projects.
• Read and interpret weld blueprints and symbols to understand job requirements and ensure accurate fabrication.
• Inspect your own welds using visual methods to verify quality, accuracy, and adherence to specifications.
• Produce welds that meet certification requirements for designated parts and assemblies.
• Work collaboratively on shift with a team of approximately 4–5 other welders to meet production goals.
• Support the fabrication of building products such as access doors, entrance grates, floor doors, fire cabinets, roof hatches, smoke vents, stair treads, and nosings.
• Use hand tools and grinding equipment to clean, finish, and prepare welds and components as required.
• Follow safety procedures and maintain a safe, organized welding bay and work area.
• Contribute to a team-first culture by communicating effectively and supporting coworkers in a production environment.

Essential Skills

• At least 1 year of welding experience, either from formal schooling or on-the-job work.
• Proficiency in MIG welding on aluminum, steel, and stainless steel in horizontal and vertical positions.
• Ability to read and interpret weld blueprints and welding symbols accurately.
• Experience using wire feed welding equipment, including .360 wire, 4043 wire, 5356 wire, and .035 wire.
• Skill in welding a range of material thicknesses from 18-gauge to 3/8 inch.
• Capability to perform basic TIG welding when needed.
• Experience with production-style welding in a fabrication or manufacturing environment.
• Ability to visually inspect welds and identify defects or issues requiring correction.
• Familiarity with grinding and finishing welds using hand tools and grinding equipment.
• Comfort working with sheet metal, mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum in a fabrication setting.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• 3 or more years of welding experience, either from formal training programs or on-the-job experience, is a plus.
• Background in fabrication and assembly work within a manufacturing facility.
• Experience with flux core welding processes.
• Strong blueprint reading skills, including understanding fabrication and assembly drawings.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment with other welders and production staff.
• Reliability in maintaining consistent schedules, including part-time arrangements when agreed upon.

Work Environment

This role is based in a large manufacturing facility that produces building products such as access doors, entrance grates, floor doors, fire cabinets, roof hatches, smoke vents, and stair treads and nosings. The facility includes assembly, warehouse, and fabrication areas and is a busy production environment rather than a spotless shop, but it is built on a strong culture and team-oriented approach. Each welder has an individual welding bay on the manufacturing floor, and all welding equipment is provided except for the helmet, which you will supply. The work is primarily production-style welding, with frequent use of MIG welding equipment, hand tools, and grinding tools. The facility operates as a no-smoking property, meaning smoking is not permitted anywhere on-site. Dress is typical for an industrial welding environment, with appropriate protective clothing and gear expected to ensure safety while working around fabrication equipment and materials.

This is a Permanent position based out of MINNEAPOLIS, MN.

The pay range for this position is $23.55 - $25.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
