Job Details for Probation Support Technician Court Name/Organization Georgia Northern District Court Overview of the Position The U.S. District Court Probation Office for the Northern District of Georgia has multiple immediate openings for Probation Support Technicians in the Atlanta and Gainesville office. The incumbents will provide technical and administrative support to probation officers, as well as provide office reception in accordance with internal policies and procedures, to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the office. Assist officers in performing investigations of all types for the office and other districts (e.g., collateral, presentence, post sentence, etc.). Contact various local law enforcement and regulatory agencies to collect and record information for both presentence and investigation and collateral investigation reports. Conduct law enforcement and other record checks via various automated systems. Maintain records as required. Participate in and contribute to ongoing training programs. Assist in the collection of drug testing samples via urinalysis consistent with policy. Perform receptionist duties by greeting telephone callers and visitors / clients coming into the office. Perform other such duties as required. Manages a caseload of low-risk cases according to low risk supervision standards Qualifications To qualify at step 1 of CL 23, the successful candidate must be a high school graduate or equivalent, plus two years’ general experience. General experience is defined as progressively responsible clerical, office or other work which indicates the possession of or the ability to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of this position. Education above the high school level may be substituted for required general experience based on one academic year (30 semester or 45 quarter hours of undergraduate study) equals one year of general experience. To qualify at step 2 to 24 of CL 23, the successful candidate also must have at least one year of specialized experience. Specialized experience is defined as progressively responsible clerical or administrative experience requiring the regular and recurring application of clerical procedures that demonstrate the ability to apply a body of rules, regulations, directives, or laws and involve the routine use of specialized terminology and automated software and equipment for word processing, data entry or report generation. Such experience is commonly encountered in law firms, legal counsel offices, banking and credit firms, educational institutions, social service organizations, insurance companies, real estate and title offices, and corporate headquarters or human resources / payroll operations. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a field of academic study, such as criminal justice, criminology, psychology, sociology, human relations, or business or public administration.
