Speech Language Pathologist
The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) provides prevention, assessment, consultation, and intervention services for students with speech, language, communication, and related disorders that impact their educational performance. The SLP collaborates with teachers, families, administrators, and related service providers to design and implement evidence-based interventions that support students' communication skills and participation in the bilingual educational environment. The SLP ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) policies.
Assessment and Evaluation
- Conduct screenings, evaluations, and re-evaluations to identify students with speech and language impairments or related communication needs.
- Administer standardized and informal assessments to determine eligibility for services under IDEA and other applicable regulations.
- Interpret assessment data and prepare comprehensive evaluation reports that clearly communicate findings to families and educational teams.
- Participate in the School Building Level Committee (SBLC) and Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) processes to support early identification and intervention for students experiencing communication challenges.
- Complete evaluations and required documentation within Louisiana state timelines and compliance requirements.
Therapy, Intervention, and Case Management
- Provide direct speech-language therapy services to students individually or in small groups in accordance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Develop and implement evidence-based interventions targeting speech, articulation, language, pragmatics, fluency, voice, and augmentative communication needs.
- Write measurable IEP goals and objectives aligned to Louisiana academic standards and individualized student needs.
- Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals using data collection and progress monitoring tools.
- Prepare progress reports aligned with reporting periods and communicate student progress to families and educational teams.
- Case manage students with Speech or Language Impairment classification, including scheduling and conducting IEP meetings prior to due dates and maintaining accurate and compliant special education records.
Collaboration and Consultation
- Collaborate with general education teachers, special education teachers, administrators, and related service providers to support students in inclusive classroom settings.
- Provide consultation to educators regarding classroom strategies and accommodations to support students' communication development.
- Maintain positive and culturally responsive relationships with families and communicate student progress and recommendations.
- Participate in IEP meetings, eligibility meetings, and other team meetings as required to support student services.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including occupational therapists, school psychologists, counselors, and administrators to support student outcomes.
Documentation and Compliance
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records in accordance with IDEA, FERPA, Medicaid, and Louisiana Department of Education regulations.
- Complete service logs, therapy documentation, and progress monitoring data as required.
- Ensure all evaluation, IEP, and therapy documentation is completed within required timelines and stored appropriately in student records.
- Participate in audits or monitoring activities related to special education compliance.
Program Development and Support
- Contribute to the development and improvement of speech and language services within the school.
- Provide professional guidance and training to staff regarding speech and language development, communication strategies, and classroom supports.
- Assist in implementing inclusive practices that support students with communication needs within the general education environment.
Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain current licensure and certification requirements for speech-language pathology in Louisiana.
- Stay informed of current research, best practices, and regulatory requirements related to speech-language services and special education.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills related to communication disorders and educational practices.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited institution.
- Valid Louisiana Speech-Language Pathology License (L-SLP) or eligibility for licensure.
- Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP), Clinical Fellow (CF-SLP), or Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) working under supervision.
- Knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Louisiana special education regulations.
- Experience with the IEP process and documentation requirements.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience providing speech-language services in a school-based setting.
- Experience working with multilingual or bilingual students.
- Knowledge of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC).
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Ability to move throughout school buildings and campuses
- Ability to travel between LFI school sites during the school day as needed
- Ability to provide services and participate in meetings.
