Machine Operator

This role operates production saws and related equipment in a manufacturing environment, focusing on safe, accurate, and efficient processing of parts. You will work in a production setting performing manual and machine-based operations, using precision measuring tools to ensure parts meet dimensional and quality specifications.

Responsibilities

• Operate saws and related machinery in the Sawland area to cut and process parts according to work instructions.
• Load parts into saws and other equipment safely and efficiently, following standard operating procedures.
• Perform outside operations such as manual drilling, deburring, and other manual finishing tasks using drill presses and hand tools.
• Use electric drills to drill and tap products accurately, ensuring proper alignment and thread quality.
• Use a torque or similar wrench to bolt down fixtures into T-plates securely to support safe and repeatable setups.
• Utilize properly calibrated precision measuring instruments such as calipers, depth gauges, thread gauges, pin gauges, micrometers, and other tools to perform dimensional inspections.
• Conduct dimensional inspections to verify that parts meet specified tolerances and quality standards.
• Follow lean manufacturing principles to reduce waste, improve efficiency, and support continuous improvement initiatives on the production floor.
• Complete required departmental paperwork accurately, including production records and inspection documentation.
• Read and follow written instructions, work orders, and safety guidelines to ensure safe and compliant operations.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with 5S and lean manufacturing practices.
• Adapt to a high-volume, repetitive production setting and learn the processes required to perform consistent, high-quality work.
• Prioritize safety and quality in all tasks, proactively identifying and communicating issues or potential improvements.

Essential Skills

• Experience working in a manufacturing environment, preferably with machine operation and saw operation.
• Ability to operate production saws and related equipment, including bandsaws.
• Proficiency using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, thread gauges, pin gauges, and other dimensional inspection tools.
• Ability to perform dimensional inspections and interpret measurement results to verify part conformity.
• Ability to read and write at a level typically associated with a high school education or equivalent to follow written instructions and complete departmental paperwork.
• Basic math skills to support measurement, inspection, and production calculations.
• Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and practices.
• Exposure to or understanding of Lean Six Sigma concepts.
• Ability to perform manual operations such as drill press work, deburring, drilling, and tapping.
• Comfort working in a repetitive production environment while maintaining focus on safety and quality.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent education.
• Hands-on experience with bandsaw operation in a production setting.
• Experience using electric drills and tapping tools for production work.
• Experience using torque or similar wrenches to secure fixtures and setups.
• Background or training in lean manufacturing and Lean Six Sigma methodologies.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and product quality.
• Willingness to learn new processes and adapt to standardized production workflows.

Work Environment

This position is on 1st shift, with typical hours of 6 AM to 2:30 PM and regular schedules approaching 50 hours per week, providing consistent overtime opportunities. The facility operates as a high-volume production environment, with repetitive tasks and standardized processes rather than job shop-style work. The workplace emphasizes safety, quality, and lean manufacturing principles, and uses saws, drill presses, electric drills, tapping tools, and precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges. The site may open on Saturdays for optional additional work, and candidates should be flexible to support these schedules. A sign-on bonus structure is available, with payments after 90 days and again after six months, reflecting the value placed on retention and reliability. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.75 - $21.75/hr.
