Job Description

The Production Supervisor serves as a line-level technical leader, ensuring that production teams consistently achieve and improve business results across key performance areas. In this leadership role, you model effective priority setting, manage the plan-do-check-adjust cycle, and provide ongoing coaching and training to your team. You act as an internal technical expert on autonomous and progressive maintenance, driving operational excellence, safety, quality, and continuous improvement on one or more production lines.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise line teams of approximately 30 to 50 employees to achieve safety, quality, cost, delivery, sustainability, and morale targets.

• Model and manage effective priority setting and oversee the plan-do-check-adjust cycle to drive continuous improvement and business results.

• Operate and maintain production equipment to build technical mastery and ensure reliable, efficient line performance.

• Apply autonomous maintenance (AM) and progressive maintenance (PM) standards, including break-down maintenance and planned maintenance, on dedicated equipment.

• Use total productive maintenance and Six Sigma methodologies to reduce losses, improve processes, and enhance line performance.

• Maintain equipment at basic conditions independently and ensure adherence to AM Step 4 systems and PM Step 3 systems.

• Lead shutdown maintenance activities and coordinate resources to minimize downtime and support smooth restart of operations.

• Conduct root-cause analysis (RCA) for equipment stops, breakdowns, and quality issues, and implement corrective actions to eliminate recurring problems.

• Drive stops reduction and loss analysis to identify, quantify, and eliminate sources of inefficiency and waste in the production process.

• Ensure all safety processes and standards are strictly observed, including safety maps, lock out tag out (LOTO), behavior observation system (BOS), and other safety protocols.

• Oversee quality assurance activities to ensure zero harm and 100 percent good-quality products, maintaining compliance with corporate policies and manufacturing standards.

• Allocate and manage resources effectively during the shift, ensuring that staffing, materials, and equipment are available to meet production schedules.

• Support new product development by applying maintenance standards and technical expertise to equipment setup, trials, and process adjustments.

• Handle challenging interpersonal situations tactfully and professionally, fostering a collaborative and respectful work environment.

• Influence and lead teams in a union environment, building trust and engagement while achieving operational goals.

• Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, to provide direction, feedback, and performance updates to team members and stakeholders.

• Support production scheduling and control systems to ensure on-time delivery and adherence to manufacturing plans.

• Promote continuous improvement, lean manufacturing practices, and process optimization across the production line.

• Ensure compliance with corporate policies, manufacturing operations standards, and industrial safety requirements.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience in supervising production teams in a manufacturing environment, including leading line teams of approximately 30 to 50 employees.

• Strong knowledge of autonomous maintenance (AM) Step 4 systems and progressive maintenance (PM) Step 3 systems.

• Demonstrated ability to maintain equipment at basic conditions independently and execute AM and PM standards, including break-down and planned maintenance.

• Hands-on experience with total productive maintenance and Six Sigma methodologies, including qualification of AM Steps 5-6 and PM Step 3.

• Experience in production management, manufacturing operations, and manufacturing processes.

• Ability to handle challenging interpersonal situations tactfully and maintain positive working relationships.

• Experience influencing and leading teams in a union environment.

• Effective verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail.

• Supervisory and management skills with a focus on coaching, training, and team development.

• Demonstrated capability in process improvement, continuous improvement, and lean manufacturing.

• Understanding of corporate policies, control systems, and industrial support functions related to manufacturing.

• Ability to support production scheduling and meet delivery and performance targets.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience applying Six Sigma and lean manufacturing tools to drive continuous improvement in a production setting.

• Familiarity with behavior observation systems (BOS) and root-cause analysis (RCA) for safety and operational issues.

• Knowledge of safety processes such as safety maps and lock out tag out (LOTO) procedures.

• Exposure to total productive maintenance programs and structured loss analysis methodologies.

• Ability to support new product development through equipment setup, trials, and process optimization.

• Comfort working within established corporate policies and manufacturing standards.

• Strong organizational skills for resource allocation, production scheduling, and shift management.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Chicago, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $86900.00 - $119515.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
