Director of Dining Services

Overview Brookdale West Boynton Beach is seeking a Dining Service Director to lead our culinary team. We are a total unit community with 147 units (123 assisted living, 24 memory care). The role combines leadership with hands-on culinary involvement, including menu planning, food preparation, team development, inventory management, scheduling, sanitation oversight, and maintaining quality dining services within budget. The Dining Services Director will help create a welcoming dining atmosphere while ensuring meals are prepared safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company and nutritional standards. This position partners closely with community leadership and dining team members to deliver excellent hospitality and meaningful resident experiences daily. Responsibilities Direct food service operations within the community, including food preparation, dining room operations, and dining delivery services. Purchase all food and manage inventory to ensure effective cost controls, vendor service, and quality. Ensure high nutrition and food quality for residents; comply with federal, state, and local regulations to maintain sanitary and safe operations. Plan and execute entertaining dining events and themes in collaboration with Activities Director, Marketing Director, and other staff to enhance resident life and enjoyment; may cater events as requested. Hire, train, and manage supervisory staff for kitchen, dining room, catering, and delivery services; maintain safe, sanitary environments and motivate, discipline, and develop staff as needed. Collaborate with chefs to develop nutritious menus; assess resident preferences and incorporate them into menus and events; coordinate with dietitians, nursing, and care staff to meet dietary needs. Develop and manage the department budget, including purchasing and staffing; monitor inventory and maintain cost controls; review budget compliance and adjust as needed. Promote socialization and enjoyment through food presentation and events; improve dining room decor and conditions for a safe, pleasant experience. Coordinate with Regional Food Service Directors to improve operations, reduce costs, and explore new program ideas. Qualifications Education and Experience College degree in food service or hospitality management preferred. At least eight years of progressive food service experience, including three years in a supervisory role, with experience in managing inventories and budgets. Certifications Current ServSafe Certification required. Obtain/hold any necessary local, state, or county food handling and sanitation licenses or certificates. Management/Decision Making Ability to apply guidelines to make varied department decisions; manage a large number of associates through direct and supervisory channels; demonstrate sound judgment and reasonableness. Knowledge and Skills Extensive knowledge of food preparation, service operations, and regulatory requirements; ability to manage a high-volume, multi-meal operation; strong communication with residents and staff about dietary needs and preferences.
