The state supported living centers serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or who have behavioral problems. The centers provide campus-based direct services and supports at 13 centers located throughout the state. The Resident Specialist III works in a residential environment. Work involves implementing and overseeing the daily environmental care and upkeep of facility buildings; works closely with facility residential and support staff to ensure the overall safety, cleanliness, sanitation, and environmental upkeep - reporting any deficient issues to facility maintenance, environmental services, food service, or other section staff as well as to supervisory personnel as assigned. Will perpetually monitor all facility home environments, workshop environments and other environments as assigned, and document all activities and reports of deficient conditions, provide support to home and workshop staff and residents in an effort to maintain environmental excellence and conditions. May supervise the work of others. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Essential Job Functions (EJFs): Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned. Oversee the quality of resident living and workshop environments, and support services provided to clients in their living environments. Oversees building life safety appurtenances, health environmental issues, responds to emergencies, or complaints according to policy and procedure; and ensures acceptable level of environmental care services. Ensures coordination of necessary environmental programs, inspections, and related documentation within the facility and with external facilities. Ensures accountability of facility property, equipment, and residential home and workshop items, and requests services of custodial or maintenance departments. Act as the facility representative in daily IMRT meetings for environmental issues and concerns. Ensures safety and security of residents’ property. Monitors and evaluates the condition of facilities and requests services of custodial or maintenance departments. Inspects areas daily and prepares reports of findings. Serves as a resource to residential staff for environmental issues and activities. Communicate with other residence and facility employees or other interested parties regarding environmental issues and/or concerns and effectively plan remedies to overcome deficient practices identified. Maintains facility property, equipment, residents’ personal effects, home and workshop equipment, furniture, décor and interior and exterior environment. May assist with facilities management responsibilities to include repairs, key controls, or supply and equipment requisitions. May develop and evaluate new programs. May conduct specific training programs. May train others. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs): Knowledge of life safety codes and standards and ICF-IID regulatory standards. Understanding of environmental services, appropriate facility inspection practices, work order systems utilized by support services departments. Knowledge of techniques used in planning and supervising recreational and social activities in a residential rehabilitation setting; of child and adolescent problems, growth, and development; and of techniques used in planning and monitoring activities of residents in special schools or correctional homes. Ability to facilitate productive interaction between multiple departments, to conduct investigations, to train others, and to supervise the work of others. Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications: None Initial Screening Criteria: 2 years’ experience working with individuals with Intellectual disabilities in a residential living facility. Experience with Life Safety codes and standards; with environmental services; and with facility inspection practices. Experience with communicating effectively both orally and in writing. Experience with Microsoft software such as Outlook, Internet Explorer, Excel, Word, etc. Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is generally preferred. Experience and education may be substituted for one another on a year for year basis. Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.
