Asbestos Abatement Coordinator Company: Struction Solutions Project: Los Angeles Unified School District Location: Los Angeles, CA Job Type: Full-Time, Contract Position Summary Struction Solutions is seeking an experienced Asbestos Abatement Coordinator to support facilities projects for the Los Angeles Unified School District. This position provides technical support related to asbestos and lead-containing materials and performs environmental assessments, sampling, abatement design, project monitoring, and reporting. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Maintain open communication with central and regional Facilities departments, including Maintenance & Operations, Project Execution, and the Central Design Management Group, to provide technical support related to asbestos and lead issues. Prepare Phase 1 site assessments and Phase 2 abatement designs addressing the impact of asbestos- and lead-containing materials on construction projects. Review environmental consultants' Phase 1, Phase 2, and Phase 3 project-monitoring reports for accuracy. Survey project sites and recommend appropriate methods for mitigating and abating asbestos- and lead-containing building materials. Prepare job estimates for project assessment, design, and monitoring activities. Prepare reports describing inspection findings, results, and potential project impacts identified through the review of construction drawings. Plan the repair, removal, disposal, or encapsulation of asbestos-containing building materials. Plan the abatement or in-place management of lead-based paint on structures and mechanical systems. Conduct environmental project monitoring during construction to ensure compliance with applicable laws, project specifications, safety regulations, and established work practices. Investigate accidents or incidents occurring on or near school grounds during asbestos- or lead-related projects. Perform asbestos bulk sampling and lead wipe or paint-chip sampling to investigate potential asbestos releases or elevated lead exposure. Review condition-assessment reports involving asbestos-containing building materials. Address damaged or friable asbestos-containing building materials and manage the processing of asbestos bulk-sampling data and abatement records. Update project-tracking sheets to document progress and current status. Use Maximo to plan and track job progress and report actual labor charges. Minimum Experience Requirements Candidates must meet at least one of the following: Five years of full-time, paid professional construction experience on projects involving environmental asbestos and lead assessment, sampling, design, monitoring, and abatement; or Two years of full-time, paid professional construction experience on projects involving environmental asbestos and lead assessment, sampling, design, monitoring, and abatement, plus current certification from the State of California as a Certified Site Surveillance Technician; or Current certification from the State of California as a Certified Asbestos Consultant. Required Certifications Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act asbestos course certificates in all of the following disciplines: Building Inspector Management Planner Contractor/Supervisor Project Designer Environmental Protection Agency Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting certification. California Department of Public Health Lead Inspector/Assessor/Project Monitor certification. Education Requirements Candidates must meet one of the following: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or a related field; or Additional relevant professional experience that substitutes for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
