The Director of Communications is a strategic communications leader responsible for helping shape and amplify the organization's voice, mission, and impact. This role oversees day-to-day communications activities while supporting long-term communications strategy, brand management, media relations, digital engagement, executive communications, and storytelling initiatives. Reporting directly to the agency's President and CEO and, the Director of Communications serves as both a strategic advisor and hands-on communicator, helping advance the organization's mission by ensuring its stories, accomplishments, and priorities reach the audiences who matter most.
This role is responsible for managing all communications plan activities and building internal and external relationships with the organization's entities and constituencies, including philanthropy and the media. Working closely with organizational leadership, program teams, development staff, and community partners, the Director ensures that all communications are clear, compelling, mission-driven, and aligned with organizational priorities. The position also supervises communications staff and external vendors while serving as a key advisor on messaging, reputation management, and public visibility. This Director position is largely in-person daily with 1-2 days of remote options available (and subject to agency need and periodic review).

- Develop, implement, and evaluate an annual communications plan across the agency, encompassing both internal and external communications.
- Ensure consistency of messaging, brand voice, and visual identity across all channels.
- Track the agency's presence in media on a daily basis to keep leadership informed; advise leadership on communications opportunities, risks, and emerging trends.
- Respond to media requests in a timely and coordinated fashion including developing any crisis communication plans needed.
- Monitor communications performance and recommend improvements based on analytics and audience insights.
- Lead content planning and editorial calendars across digital and print platforms.
- Develop compelling stories that highlight organizational impact, program outcomes, community partnerships, and donor investments.
- Oversee the creation of newsletters, annual reports, fact sheets, presentations, organizational website, website content, blogs, and other communications materials.
- Lead and help generate online content that engages audience segments, leads to measurable action, and provides cohesion across entities.
- Field media requests and manage media relationships, delivering key data and information when needed.
- Ensure all content reflects the organization's mission, values, and strategic priorities.
- Support executive communications, including speeches, presentations, messaging, and leadership communications.
- Assist with board-facing communications, reports, and organizational updates including hosting an agency-wide virtual town hall for employees.
- Ensure parent-facing communication across program areas is engaging as well as mindful of the diversity in age, education, race-ethnicity and spoken languages.
- Partner with the child services leadership to help develop and implement marketing approaches to ensure full enrollment, alongside a selected marketing firm.
- Remain abreast of the expanding use of AI in communications and tools the agency may wish to consider using (in partnership with senior operations and IT leadership).
- Guide organization leaders on sharing information and presenting effectively.
- Proactively find opportunities to elevate the organization and its key leaders on the state and national levels.
- Oversee website content strategy and maintenance.
- Manage social media strategy, content development, and performance reporting.
- Ensure brand standards are consistently applied across all communications and marketing materials.
- Collaborate with vendors, designers, photographers, videographers, and digital partners as needed.
- Supervise communications staff, interns, consultants, and freelance contractors as assigned.
- Foster a collaborative, innovative, and high-performing communications culture.
- Support internal and external events to help reflect the organization branding and level of professionalism.
- Utilize every opportunity to reinforce CCA's mission of investing in the future of children, families and communities so that every child, regardless of zip code, has access to quality early education and care.
- Consider CCA's core values and equity commitments throughout all communications to all audiences.
- Other duties (up to 10%) as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- A Bachelor's Degree required (Masters preferred) in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications or related field.
- Significant progressive communications experience (5-7 yrs.+) including internal, external, public relations, and promotion preferably in the nonprofit and/or early education sector
- Experience using and building capacity with an organization to use customer relationship management (CRM) technology, preferably Hubspot
- Preferred experience in supervision and/or managing diverse teams
- Highly collaborative style; experience developing and implementing communications strategies
- Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills
- A strong track record as an implementer who thrives on managing a variety of key initiatives concurrently
- Skilled at relationship-building with the flexibility and finesse to "manage by influence"
- High energy, maturity, and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force and to position communications discussions at both the strategic and tactical levels
- Committed to working collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, board members, volunteers, donors, program participants, and other supporters
- Self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives
- Reliable, insured vehicle for work-related transportation.
- Driving & Mileage Reimbursement (Frequent Driver): This position is classified as a Frequent Driver, meaning the employee is expected to drive their personal vehicle on CCA business multiple times per week or month. The employee must maintain a valid driver's license, successfully complete a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check, and provide proof of personal auto insurance meeting minimum liability limits. HR approval as a cleared driver is required prior to claiming mileage reimbursement in accordance with CCA policy.
- Must meet all health and safety requirements, including:
- Passing a pre-employment and/or periodic physical exam
- Background check and renewals as required
- Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with communications technologies, including content management systems and digital graphics production; proficiency with MS Office and MS Pilot.
- MA in communications
- Spanish language (oral and written)
- Media relations experience and established media contacts in Fort Worth, North Texas and Texas
- Experience with fundraising communications, donor engagement, and impact reporting.
- Graphic design, video production, or digital advertising experience.
- Bilingual English/Spanish
