Summary Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Finance, Financial Operations located in Indianapolis, IN. Learn more about this agency Duties Help This position starts at a salary of $45,832.00 (GS-06, Step 1) to $66,210.00 (GS-07, Step 10). This position is located within the Financial Operations Directorate of the Office of Finance (OF), Office of Commissioner, United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP), United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The purpose of the position is to support accounting and finance work that will encompass revenue processing, commercial accounts, travel, payroll, account maintenance and reconciliation, data validation, and accounting system review functions. Typical duties for this position include:
- Performing reconciliation of transactions, accounts, accruals, and adjustments, and resolves discrepancies
- Reviewing and processing transactions into various financial systems, reviews data entry for accuracy and performs adjustments.
- Entering and verifying accounting data for governmental and commercial invoice payment transactions; reconciles accounts, comparing account balances with related data to assure agreement; reviews records and source documents to identify the sources of discrepancies; and determines the entries required to bring the account into balance.
- Performing Level I help desk functions by receiving, researching and responding to inquiries sent to CBP via standard mail services, email, and telephone.

- Inputting financial data into automated systems
- Processing invoices, vouchers or other payment documents
- Assisting higher-level accountants or technicians
- Gathering and evaluating financial data
- Identifying and resolving discrepancies in the data
- Processing transactions in financial systems, communicating with internal and external stakeholders to provide customer service
- Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and
- Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 06/01/2026.
