Role Description

The Head of Solution Architecture is a full-time, on-site role based in Berkeley, CA, responsible for leading the design and delivery of end-to-end solutions built on SuperMatics’ computational materials platform.

This role oversees a team of solution architects, setting technical direction, defining architecture standards, and ensuring solutions align with customer requirements and product strategy. Day-to-day responsibilities include engaging with customers and partners to understand complex technical and business needs, translating those into scalable architectures, and guiding implementation roadmaps. The role collaborates closely with product, engineering, research, and sales teams to develop proposals, support pre-sales activities, and ensure successful deployments and customer outcomes. The Head of Solution Architecture also drives continuous improvement of best practices, mentors team members, and helps shape the company’s long-term technical and platform strategy.

Qualifications

• Strong Solution Architecture skills, including designing scalable, secure, and resilient platform-based solutions for enterprise and industrial clients.
• Demonstrated Team Leadership and Team Management experience, with the ability to build, coach, and guide multidisciplinary architecture teams.
• Consulting skills, including stakeholder engagement, requirements analysis, and translating complex scientific and technical concepts into actionable solutions.
• Sales-related capabilities, such as supporting pre-sales activities, creating technical proposals, and collaborating with business development on solution offerings.
• Extensive experience in cloud, high-performance computing, or complex software platforms; background in materials science, physics, or related domains is highly beneficial.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a track record of working effectively across engineering, product, research, and customer-facing teams.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related technical field; advanced degree or equivalent experience preferred.
• Ability to work on-site in Berkeley, CA and occasionally travel to customer or partner locations as needed.
