Information Technology (IT Specialist)

Under general supervision, acts as the liaison between the Information Technology Group (ITG) and the Library. Consult with the appropriate parties within ITG and the Library to connect, adopt, and support the technology.

Provides services and support at the Library Circulation desk and IT Help Desk.

Assists with campus-wide IT support services, including satellite locations of the campus.

Works with faculty, staff, & students in assuming responsibility for the operation of the technology (computer hardware & software, scanners, printers, video projectors and other peripheral devices).

Performs installations, regular maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs on microcomputers, printers and peripheral devices.

Supervises student workers.

Provides new student worker training on IT-owned technology in the Library.

Provides consultation with end-users on recommending technology according to Leeward CC's security and hardware requirements.

Purchases campus technology following state procurement guidelines.

Provides guidance and support to users in the effective use of technology, media resources, and library facilities. Monitors library equipment and spaces, identifies issues or maintenance needs, and communicates concerns to appropriate staff to ensure a safe and functional environment.

Provides UH Username password resets for faculty/staff/students.

Updates and maintains the campus computer and printer inventory.

Provides user support for VDI.

Distributes multi-factor authentication hard tokens to faculty/staff/students.

Maintains records of activities, collects assessment data & performs assessments to help improve service(s) to the campus.

Follows and implements directives and guidance related to best practices from University of Hawai'i System Information Technology Services.

Ensures the consistent adoption, implementation, and enforcement of recommendations issued through University of Hawai'i System Information Technology Services.

Keeps abreast of recommendations issued through University of Hawai'i System Information Technology Services and takes timely action as needed.

May require evening and weekend hours.

Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems and 0 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for managing or supporting IT Help Desk operations; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.

Functional knowledge of test center/help desk and microcomputer support (PC and Macintosh) demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply principles, concepts, methodology and terminology.

Functional knowledge and understanding of technology, systems, hardware, and software associated with operating a test center/help desk and microcomputer support center.

Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve routine problems in the area of test center/help desk and microcomputer support (PC and Macintosh).

Ability to comprehend, interpret and implement administrative directives and guidance to ensure IT operations align with organizational standards and industry best practices.

Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.

Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals.

Demonstrated ability to operate an office software suite (word processor, spreadsheet, and database), web browser and email client software.

Professional experience using PC and Macintosh hardware and related software in a higher education environment.

Professional experience with data networks.

Professional experience assisting students and faculty with microcomputer software use in a higher education environment.

Professional experience working in a computer test center, lab or helpdesk environment for a higher education institution.

Experience with computer and peripheral equipment purchasing and managing a budget.

Professional certifications in an Information Technology related area(s). Such as A+, MCP, MCSA, MCSE etc.

Two years of professional management experience in a help desk/microcomputer support center.
