Temple Sinai is a growing and dynamic synagogue that has been an integral part of the community since its founding in May 2007. Congregation & Campus Highlights Approximately 400 member families 280-seat sanctuary with expandable seating capacity up to 900 Six administrative offices Social hall, library, youth lounge, and chapel On-site preschool serving approximately 400 students Religious School enrollment of approximately 70 students Annual operating budget of $2.5 million Approximately 75% of the operating budget is supported through member dues Position Summary We are seeking a highly organized, proactive, and relationship-oriented Executive Director to provide leadership and oversight for the synagogue’s operations, staff, and administrative functions. The Executive Director reports directly to the President of the Board of Trustees and partners with clergy, lay leadership, staff, volunteers, and congregants to ensure effective operations, strong community engagement, clergy support, and a positive congregational experience The ideal candidate is a self-starter who takes initiative, anticipates needs, troubleshoots challenges independently, and collaborates effectively in a small-team environment. This role requires excellent organizational and relationship-building skills, professionalism, warmth, discretion, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, community-centered setting. As a collaborative, community-centered organization with a small office, all team members are expected to step in and support one another as needed. The Executive Director should be a flexible, hands-on leader who provides oversight across operational and administrative areas while remaining willing to step in and support the team as needed to ensure the synagogue's overall success and the success of its programs. Key Responsibilities Operations, Facilities & Administration Provide leadership and oversight of office operations and administrative systems to ensure organizational efficiency, consistency, and accountability Manage synagogue operations and campus facilities, including vendor management, maintenance, office systems, space utilization, and facility needs associated with the on-site preschool Oversee administrative systems for scheduling, calendars, meetings, and organizational communications Maintain effective systems and standards for digital and physical records, files, and operational procedures Implement and maintain policies, procedures, and operational workflows Ensure a clean, organized, safe, and welcoming environment for staff, members, and visitors Coordinate facility security procedures, emergency protocols, and vendor relationships Ensure operational and technology-related issues are addressed effectively Staff Leadership, HR Oversight & Board Relations Provide leadership and organizational support to clergy, staff, committees, and volunteers Manage staff onboarding and human resources processes and practices Support Board relations through meeting coordination, documentation, follow-up, and administrative assistance Foster a collaborative, professional, and service-oriented team environment Supervise and develop administrative staff through coaching, professional development, and performance management Budgeting & Financial Administration Support the President, Treasurer, and Controller with budgeting, financial reporting, and financial management processes Manage the day-to-day Synagogue budget, monitor operational expenses, and support financial accountability Membership & Community Engagement Maintain accurate membership and constituent databases Promote a welcoming and responsive experience for members, visitors, and community partners Support outreach, engagement, and retention efforts Provide oversight of communications and logistics for congregational events and programs Build and strengthen relationships with community organizations, partners, and other stakeholders to expand the synagogue’s presence and engagement in the broader community. Program & Event Coordination Oversee planning and execution of programs, meetings, holiday events, and special projects Coordinate event logistics, including scheduling, registration, setup, materials, communications, and follow-up Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers to ensure successful program implementation Partner collaboratively with clergy to align strategy, communications, fundraising, and the congregational experience Ensure effective operational and administrative support for worship, lifecycle events, pastoral care, education, and communications Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent professional experience A minimum of 6+ years of administrative, operations, nonprofit, synagogue, membership, or office leadership experience Strong organizational and relationship-building skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to manage multiple projects and shifting priorities effectively Demonstrated initiative, problem-solving ability, and follow-through Experience with databases, Microsoft Office, CRM systems, website management, social media platforms, and ShulCloud synagogue management software preferred Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment Willingness to work evenings or weekends for events and programs Familiarity with Jewish communal life is strongly preferred; commitment to the synagogue's mission is required.
