Unit Coordinator, Pediatrics, 8 Hours (Days)

Position Summary Responsible for the overall clerical functions of the nursing station/front desk. Working collaboratively with the clinical team, the Unit Coordinator participates in delivery of patient care by providing a variety of clerical, customer relations, and support services to patients, their families/visitors, and healthcare team members. Position: Unit Coordinator Location: Pediatrics Schedule: 8 Hours (Days) Essential Responsibilities / Duties Care of the Patient and Family/Visitors: Performs a variety of direct service activities to ensure that patients and their families/visitors receive timely information and appropriate responses to their needs. Greets and directs patients, families, visitors and staff in a friendly, courteous, and positive customer‑service manner. Provides informative, non‑clinical information when requested; coordinates activities of front desk/office support services; performs clerical duties for the department; answers/responds to telephone calls and inquiries in a timely manner; handles inquiries and refers calls to appropriate personnel; checks BMC e‑mail and voice messages frequently during shift; follows up on messages and call‑light requests; maintains communication data and facilitates patient orientation to their room and unit; initiates daily RN phone assignment; secures patients’ personal property; monitors software systems for discharge orders and prints summaries; handles mail, flowers, gifts, and facilitates access to hospital services; identifies emergency situations and initiates appropriate response actions; coordinates transportation appointments; interfaces with other units; resolves questions and discrepancies within scope of role; performs office and clerical functions such as photocopying and fax transmissions; maintains unit communications; may assist in patient admission, discharge, and transfer processes; maintains accurate patient care records; schedules patient appointments; collaborates on test/procedure scheduling; maintains logs, databases, and supply boxes; keeps the unit environment clean, safe, and stocked; logs equipment issues and coordinates repairs; handles daily charges and billing; maintains inventory and restocks supplies; troubleshoots office equipment; all in coordination with the clinical team. Job Requirements: Education requires a high school education or GED. Competency requirements must be completed as offered. One to two years of previous clerical experience, preferably in a healthcare setting. Knowledge and Skills: Must effectively speak, read, and write English. Multilingual skills in languages appropriate to patient populations are preferred. Ability to interpret medical terminology and abbreviations. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and hospital systems such as SEM, IDX, SDK. Basic office equipment troubleshooting. Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to prioritize and complete assigned work efficiently; basic administrative skills; physical ability to meet job requirements. Compensation Compensation range: $19.35–$26.04 per hour.
