The Capital Markets team is the funding engine for Upstart's AI lending marketplace. We partner with leading institutional investors across a diverse range of financing and funding solutions including securitizations, whole loan sales, co-investment partnerships and other structured transactions. The Institutional Capital team has built a durable capital franchise with a track record of over $10+B of funding capacity closed. We own Upstart's whole loan relationships from lead generation to deal close across forward flow and back book transactions. Upstart's funding engine starts with this team. We connect product innovation and borrower demand with scalable, risk-adjusted capital.

As the Capital Markets Manager - Institutional Capital, you will play a critical role in shaping our overall funding strategy. You are comfortable driving deals from inception through execution, bring deep expertise in structured finance, and approach established concepts with first-principles thinking. You have cultivated a strong industry network and are a genuine, trusted partner to both internal and external stakeholders. You thrive in nimble, fast-paced environments, with an exceptional ability to bring clarity and structure to complexity. We are looking for someone who shares our passion for harnessing financial innovation and capital markets to expand access to credit at a massive scale.

Position Location - Local team members typically meet in person in the New York, NY or Burlingame, CA office once to three times weekly and work from home the rest of the time.

Time Zone Requirements - This team operates on the East/West Coast time zones.

Travel Requirements - As a digital first company, the majority of your work can be accomplished remotely. The majority of our employees can live and work anywhere in the U.S but are encouraged to still spend high quality time in-person collaborating via regular onsites. The in-person sessions' cadence varies depending on the team and role; most teams meet ~twice per quarter for 3-4 consecutive days at a time.

How you'll make an impact:

• Manage end-to-end investor relationships: structuring, term negotiation, deal execution
• Drive clarity in ambiguous environments and manage competing priorities with high quality execution, across multiple stakeholders (legal, operations, analytics, accounting)
• Contribute to building a scalable, resilient capital markets infrastructure as we grow
• Provide cross functional teams and senior leaders with a clear, well-calibrated view of investor sentiment, market appetite, and emerging funding opportunities
• Coach and mentor other team members regardless of title/level – you clearly bring something unique to the table!

What we're looking for:

• 6-8 years of relevant experience in Capital Markets, Structured Finance/Products, investment banking, or related fintech roles
• Extensive modeling, credit analysis, and transaction documentation review skills
• Track record of exercising sound judgment on risk allocation and commercial terms
• Knowledge of consumer lending product (unsecured PL, auto, HELOC) is a plus

At Upstart, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. The anticipated base salary for this position is expected to be within the below range. Your actual base pay will depend on your geographic location–with our "digital first" philosophy, Upstart uses compensation regions that vary depending on location. Individual pay is also determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

In addition, Upstart provides employees with target bonuses, equity compensation, and generous benefits packages (including medical, dental, vision, and 401k).

United States | Remote - Anticipated Base Salary Range $168,400—$232,900 USD
