Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN General)

Administers nursing care within the scope of practice under the direction of a registered nurse, licensed physician, dentist, podiatrist, optometrist, or chiropractor. Administers oxygen, applies sterile dressings, inserts catheters, reinserts gastrostomy tubes, suctions, irrigates wounds, gives enemas, and collects specimens. Performs nursing tasks including physical exams, treatments, and/or laboratory tests. Assists in emergencies by administering first aid, performing cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, and/or restraining patients. Administers controlled drugs such as narcotics and minor tranquilizers as well as non-controlled medications in various forms. Provides medication instructions to patients and maintains medication accountability records. Observes, documents, and reports patient conditions including medication reactions and treatment responses. Prepares and maintains related reports and records. Provides general nursing care and program assistance, including taking patient vital signs and assisting with personal grooming and daily living activities. Administers topical ointments and solutions and responds to patient alarms. Makes medical appointments for patients and assists with recreational activities. Provides one-on-one group activities per the treatment plan. Offers assistance to lower-level direct care staff in providing general unskilled nursing care. Participates in various meetings including staff conferences and in-service training programs. Orders medication and medical supplies, cleans the nursing station, and performs clerical tasks.
