PH Nurse Sr (Family Planning Quality Assurance Nurse Supervisor)

Job Overview The Family Planning Quality Assurance Nurse Supervisor is a critical member of the Reproductive Health Unit in the Division of Child and Family Health. The supervisor brings expertise in nursing, quality improvement, and clinical reproductive health to support nurses and clinical teams across the Commonwealth, ensuring staff have the information and training necessary to provide care that aligns with clinical best practices and grant requirements. Key responsibilities include reviewing policy and guidance, ensuring staff compliance, conducting site reviews and developing corrective action plans, supervising the Family Planning Training and Development Coordinator, developing training activities with partners, and collaborating with the Division of Population Health Data to monitor program data. The role also engages with other reproductive health programs within the unit and partners with offices at VDH, local health districts, and community-based stakeholders. Responsibilities Review all relevant policy, practice, and guidance documents and ensure staff understand and comply with the content. Conduct clinical site reviews of family planning clinics to document compliance and develop/monitor corrective action plans. Directly supervise the Family Planning Training and Development Coordinator and collaborate to develop, implement, and evaluate training and professional development activities. Work closely with the Division of Population Health Data to monitor family planning program data and performance. Collaborate with teams within the Office of Family Health Services and other VDH offices, local health districts, and community partners. Engage with other reproductive health programs in the unit such as the Contraceptive Access Initiative, Pregnancy Loss Initiative, State Funding of Certain Abortions Program, and Adolescent Health Program. Minimum Qualifications Licensure as an RN in Virginia or a compact state; new graduates must obtain RN license within 90 days of hire. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR; fit testing ability per OSHA regulations. Experience functioning in a leadership role and ability to work independently in home, clinic, community, and school settings. Knowledge of current standards of family planning/reproductive health clinical care, including contraceptive methods. Experience entering, reviewing, and analyzing data and statistics; ability to produce reports and recommendations in a fast‑paced, data‑driven environment. Knowledge of nursing processes, health maintenance, disease processes, behavioral sciences, case management, and epidemiology principles. Effective teamwork in a multidisciplinary setting. Computer skills with Microsoft Office and Outlook. Ability to work with diverse cultural backgrounds. Demonstrated nursing judgment, decision making, teaching, counseling, problem analysis, and problem solving. Additional Considerations Public health experience. Preferred: Certification in Infection Control and experience in hospital or long‑term care facility infection control.
