Assistant Project Manager – Commercial ConstructionIf you're early in your project management career and want more than just pushing paperwork, this is a good opportunity to actually learn how projects get built from the inside out.I'm working with an Chicago area commercial general contractor that's looking to bring on an Assistant Project Manager to support and grow alongside experienced PMs and field teams. This is a hands-on role where you'll be involved in the full lifecycle of projects—not just one piece of it.What you'll be doing You'll work closely with Project Managers and Superintendents to help keep projects on track—handling the details that make everything run smoothly while learning how decisions are made at a higher level.Support projects from preconstruction through closeoutHelp manage submittals, RFIs, and project documentationAssist with subcontractor coordination and communicationTrack budgets, change orders, and project costsStay involved with scheduling and project updatesCommunicate with clients, design teams, and internal staffSpend time both in the office and on-site to understand how things come together in the fieldWhat they're looking for1–5 years of experience in commercial construction (APM, Project Engineer, or similar)Basic understanding of construction processes and documentationOrganized, detail-oriented, and able to keep multiple things moving at onceComfortable communicating with different personalities—field and officeDegree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field is helpful but not requiredWhat you'll get out of itReal exposure to how projects are run—not just a support roleMentorship from experienced PMs and field leadersA clear path into a full Project Manager roleStable pipeline of commercial work and a team that keeps things practicalCompensation includes base salary, bonus potential, and full benefits.If you're at the point where you want to learn faster and take on more responsibility, this is a solid next step.
