The position will be expected to teach a total of four courses during the 2026‑2027 academic year, including two courses in the area of Jain Studies, one comparative course in the area of Jainism and non‑violent religious traditions, and one course in Religions of India. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Religious Studies, Anthropology, Sociology, Literature, Philosophy, or related disciplines, and must demonstrate an approach to undergraduate teaching of religion that balances a philosophical, doctrinal, or ethical framework with engagement in the anthropological, social, historical, and political dimensions of religious traditions. A record of academic training in Jainism or academic research on Jainism is requisite, but candidates should also be qualified and available to teach survey courses on other major living South Asian religious traditions such as Hinduism and Sikhism. Focus on modernity, field research, gender and sexuality studies, diaspora, media and popular culture, political organization and activism, and inter‑religious dynamics in South Asia and within the South Asian diaspora will be considered favorably.
