Job Description
This role involves accurately and efficiently preparing, portioning, cooking, and presenting a variety of hot and cold food items for multiple meal periods, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special or catered events. You will focus on high-volume food production for a large group of diners in a healthcare setting, working in a temporary but well-equipped kitchen while the main kitchen undergoes a major renovation.
Responsibilities

• Prepare, portion, cook, and present a wide range of hot and cold food items for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special or catered events.
• Produce high-volume meals for approximately 300 people in a healthcare facility, ensuring consistency in taste, quality, and presentation.
• Follow established recipes, portion guidelines, and production schedules to meet meal service timelines.
• Maintain high standards of food safety, sanitation, and cleanliness while working in a makeshift kitchen environment.
• Coordinate cooking and food prep activities to ensure all menu items are ready for service at the scheduled times.
• Monitor food levels and replenish items as needed to support continuous meal service for large groups.
• Interact courteously and professionally with residents and staff during occasional direct contact.
• Adapt to working in a temporary kitchen setup and follow any updated processes or procedures during the main kitchen remodel.
• Use kitchen equipment safely and correctly, reporting any issues or maintenance needs to the appropriate personnel.
• Support special events and catered functions by preparing and presenting menu items according to event requirements.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience in food preparation and cooking, particularly in a food service environment.
• Bulk food prep and high-volume cooking, such as preparing meals for large groups.
• Ability to accurately follow recipes, portion sizes, and production instructions.
• Strong attention to detail in food quality, presentation, and consistency.
• Capability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with strict meal service timelines.
• Knowledge of basic food safety and sanitation practices.
• Ability to work cooperatively with kitchen staff and other team members.
• Comfort working in a temporary kitchen setup while adapting to changing processes during renovations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience in a healthcare, institutional, or similar large-scale food service setting is preferred.
• Experience supporting special events or catered functions is an advantage.
• Flexibility to adjust to evolving kitchen layouts and workflows during a major remodel.
• Strong communication skills to interact respectfully with residents and colleagues when needed.

Work Environment
You will work primarily in an air-conditioned, comfortable makeshift kitchen located outside the main facility while the permanent kitchen undergoes a $2,000,000 renovation. The role involves high-volume meal production for approximately 300 people in a healthcare setting, with limited but occasional interaction with residents. The environment combines the structure of institutional food service with the flexibility required to operate in a temporary kitchen setup. You can expect a focus on cleanliness, safety, and adherence to food service standards while using standard commercial kitchen equipment in a nontraditional but well-maintained workspace.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Baltimore, MD.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
