Field Service Technician

Your RoleAs a Field Service Technician, your mission is to facilitate growth of Power Technique's Aftermarket through a customer-facing Field Service Engineer with strong diesel-engine expertise, capable of diagnosing, repairing, quoting, and selling service work on compressors, generators, and tools—using digital systems and incentivized on performance.You will report to the Service Center Manager.Responsibilities include:Technical Service & RepairsDiagnose, troubleshoot, and repair diesel-driven compressors, generators, and tools with primary focus on diesel engine related issues.Perform preventative, corrective, and breakdown maintenance on customer equipment.Identify root causes of failures and recommend durable repair solutions (not temporary fixes)Read and interpret service manuals, wiring diagrams, and engine fault codesEnsure all repairs are completed safely, efficiently, and to OEM standardsCustomer Interaction & On-site SupportAct as the primary company representative on customer sitesCommunicate technical issues clearly to operators, site managers, and decision-makersExplain repair needs, risks, and benefits in plain business terms (downtime, cost, reliability)Build trust-based, long-term customer relationships through professional service deliveryService Sales & Commercial ResponsibilitiesIdentify and actively sell repair, overhaul, and preventative maintenance workPrepare and present clear, professional service quotes directly to customersRecommend additional services, parts, or upgrades based on machine condition and usageFollow up on quotes to secure customer approval and close service opportunitiesOperate effectively in an incentivized, performance-based compensation modelTravel: Extensive travel to customer locations is required, with some overnight travel (up to 80%)To Succeed, You Will NeedWe encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every single requirement. We value diverse experiences and perspectives and are excited to see what you bring to the role.This position requires a high school diploma and a minimum of 3 years of experience performing service on major brand equipment and engines, and including electronic engine diagnosis and troubleshooting experienceDesired Expertise:A minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience with diesel engines, preferably working with compressors and generators.Ability to perform fault diagnostics (starting, power loss, overheating, emission issues)Repair fuel, air, cooling, lubrication, and exhaust systemsInterpret engine fault codes and service manualsFamiliarity with Tier 3/Tier 4 engines, sensors, ECUs, and basic emission componentsAbility to sell the repair and confidently explain to customers what failed, why it failed, and what happens if it's not repairedTranslate technical issues into business impact (downtime, fuel consumption, reliability, safety risk)Ability to build clear, professional quotes on iPad/laptopPropose preventative actions, not just corrective repairsRecognize opportunities for engine overhauls, compressor builds, service kits, upgrades or accessoriesComfortable being incentivized on sales resultsTechnical service experience maintaining and repairing compressed air equipment, generators, or equivalentForklift certification is required (company support available if needed)A valid driver's license is requiredDesired SkillsSelf-driven and able to work independently in a field service roleConfident in identifying, quoting, and selling service workStrong communication skills with a customer-first mindsetStrong ownership mentalityDiesel engine diagnostics and fault isolationKnowledge of fuel, air intake, exhaust, cooling, and lubrication systemsUnderstanding of engine electronic control systems (ECU, sensors, actuators, fault codes)Ability to troubleshoot starting, power loss, overheating, and shutdown issuesStrong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skillsBasic computer proficiency (Outlook, Excel, Word, and business systems)Growth mindset and willingness to develop within the businessIn Return, We OfferWe offer competitive wages and a world-class benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance, company-paid life, short and long-term disability insurance, generous paid time off, and 401(k) matching and automatic company contribution.This position offers an hourly pay range of $48.29 - $60.37 with starting pay based on factors such as experience, education, certifications, specialized skills, and job-related qualifications.Power Technique North America LLC is an Equal Opportunity Employer and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any kind.
