We are seeking qualified Registered Nurses (RNs) to provide onsite nursing services at the Dayton VA Medical Center . RNs will provide patient care across clinical areas and work collaboratively with physicians, nursing leadership, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team.

The role requires strong clinical judgment, organization, flexibility, and the ability to independently provide nursing care while following VA policies, procedures, and standards of care.

Responsibilities

• Obtain and document patient histories and pertinent family history.
• Assess patients, establish priorities, and develop appropriate nursing care plans.
• Provide nursing care to patients in accordance with established standards and within the RN's scope of practice.
• Perform critical care nursing for Intensive Care Unit patients.
• Perform scrub and circulating duties in the Emergency Department and Operating Room, as assigned.
• Administer medications and IV therapies.
• Assess and document patient responses to medications and treatments.
• Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms and operate cardiac monitoring equipment.
• Operate EKG machines, defibrillators, cardiac monitors, and other emergency equipment.
• Recognize emergencies and initiate appropriate nursing and lifesaving measures.
• Assist with surgical and diagnostic procedures.
• Perform central line and ventilator care in accordance with facility policy.
• Perform skin assessments and implement measures to prevent hospital-acquired pressure ulcers.
• Monitor intake and output and review laboratory data and electronic medical records.
• Carry out physician orders and accurately document care in the medical record.
• Communicate pertinent patient information to physicians, charge nurses, and other members of the healthcare team.
• Educate patients and families regarding medications, therapies, and procedures.
• Participate in discharge planning.
• Care for patients with a variety of catheters and prostheses.
• Maintain patient privacy and respect patient rights.
• Follow VA patient safety and infection control standards.
• Complete required clinical documentation and quality improvement activities.

The PWS specifically identifies assessment, care planning, medication administration, emergency response, cardiac monitoring, patient education, discharge planning, and documentation among the RN responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a professional nursing program accredited by ACEN or CCNE .
• Current Ohio Board of Nursing RN license .
• Current CPR certification from an American Heart Association vendor.
• Current BLS certification .
• Current ACLS certification if assigned to a specialty clinic.
• Minimum of 1 year of direct patient care experience within the past 3 years .
• Experience in Intensive Care, Medical-Surgical, Telemetry/Cardiac Monitoring, or Emergency Room settings is applicable to the PWS.
• VA experience is desirable.
• Must be technically proficient in the skills necessary to perform assigned duties.
• Must be able to speak, understand, read, and write English fluently.

Contract staff are scheduled onsite based on facility needs. Primary Care clinic hours are generally 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM , with the VA reserving the ability to adjust schedules to meet staffing and patient-care needs.

Compensation

W2 - $40-42/hr

Additional Requirements

Contract staff must comply with applicable VA policies, training requirements, patient privacy requirements, infection control standards, and credentialing requirements prior to providing services.
