Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) Location: West Des Moines, IA 50266 West Des Moines Dental Center i s looking for an experienced, skilled Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA) to join our team. Clinical Responsibilities Provide expert chairside assistance and perform expanded function duties as authorized under Iowa state law, including placement and finishing of restorations, application of sealants, and other EFDA-permitted procedures Assist the dentist across a wide range of services: preventive and restorative dentistry, cosmetic procedures, implant restorations, clear aligner treatment, laser dentistry, oral surgery, wisdom tooth extractions, periodontal therapy, TMJ/TMD treatment, Botox, and emergency dentistry Prepare operatories, instruments, and materials prior to each appointment Take and process dental radiographs in compliance with Iowa state regulations Sterilize and maintain instruments and equipment following strict infection control protocols Ensure patient comfort and provide compassionate support throughout every phase of treatment Take dental impressions and assist with lab tasks under dentist direction Document medical histories, record vitals, and maintain accurate patient records in full compliance with HIPAA Provide post-treatment instructions and oral hygiene education (brushing, flossing, nutritional counseling) Administrative Support (as needed) Greet patients and manage check-in and check-out Schedule and confirm appointments using practice management software Answer phones and assist with patient inquiries in a warm, professional manner Support billing, supply ordering, and other office tasks as directed What Makes You a Great Fit Iowa EFDA certification required, must be authorized to perform expanded functions under Iowa state dental law Iowa Dental Assistant Registration issued by the Iowa Board of Dental Examiners is required Current CPR certification required Spanish bilingual candidates strongly encouraged to apply Calm, patient-centered presence that puts patients at ease Strong proficiency with dental practice management software and digital radiography Excellent communication and interpersonal skills across both clinical and front-office settings Detail-oriented, dependable, and punctual with a strong work ethic Self-motivated and eager to keep learning as technology and techniques evolve Team-first mindset with a genuine commitment to a positive, collaborative work environment What We Offer Competitive compensation Health and welfare benefits package 401(k) retirement plan with company match Exposure to advanced technology including Overjet AI-assisted imaging, laser dentistry, digital radiography, and clear aligner treatment Broad clinical exposure across a true full-service practice A tight-knit, supportive team culture with low turnover and genuine camaraderie Continuing education support to keep your skills and licensure current Are you ready to bring your expanded function skills to a practice that truly values its team?
