Assistant Finance Director

Job Summary Under direction, provides professional nutrition services to participants of the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Nutrition Program and clients of other nutrition components within the Public Health Department; and performs related duties as required. Public Health Nutritionist is the entry-level classification. Incumbents learn the WIC rules and regulations to perform the full range of nutritionist duties. It is distinguished from the WIC Site Supervisor by the latter’s responsibility for supervising and directing the work of WIC clinic staff. Responsibilities Assesses nutritional status and provides nutrition counseling to high-risk pregnant or breast‑feeding women, infants, and young children in the WIC program and clients in Maternal and Child Health, obstetrics, and primary care clinics. Through the automated system, reviews participants’ medical and nutrition information to assess status, determines eligibility, develops nutrition plans, helps participants select and prepare foods based on their physical, financial, and psycho‑social needs, and documents eligibility, assessment, and education, and referral information in compliance with State regulations. Assists senior staff in reviewing and selecting nutritional education materials such as pamphlets, textbooks, and audio‑visual aids for use by participants and develops informational material for dissemination to individuals, groups, and the media. Conducts outreach activities and serves as a nutrition expert by responding to inquiries, sending related information to community groups, attending health fairs, physician groups, workshops, and conferences to keep abreast of current issues and trends; coordinates, facilitates, and participates in WIC program surveys and studies. Employment Standards Possession of a bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in nutrition and dietetics and one year of training in a dietetic internship approved by the American Dietetic Association. Must be R.D. eligible upon appointment and must obtain dietitian registration from the American Dietetic Association within one year of appointment, as a condition of continued employment. Additional Qualifications May be required to travel independently to clinic sites. May be required to work evenings and weekends. Ability to speak, read, and write Spanish fluently may be required for some positions.
