Postdoctoral Associate in Structural Biology and Biophysics The Deaconescu Lab at Rutgers University is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to study microbial stress responses, focusing on DNA damage responses and the mechanochemistry of DNA-based motors. The position involves biochemical, biophysical and structural techniques such as X‑ray crystallography, small‑angle X‑ray scattering and transmission electron microscopy. Responsibilities Conduct structural and biophysical studies on proteins and protein‑nucleic acid complexes Perform protein expression, purification, and characterization using assays such as EMSA, ITC, AUC, fluorescence anisotropy, BLI, MST, CD, and others Develop assays and perform molecular microbiology work Obtain training in crystallization, crystallographic computing, microscope alignment, data acquisition, image processing and structure calculation using cryo‑EM software Use Linux for data analysis and manuscript preparation Prepare scientific manuscripts and grant proposals Qualifications PhD in structural biology, biochemistry, biophysics or a related field Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals Solid experience with protein biochemistry, including expression and purification Prior knowledge of crystallography and/or single-particle electron microscopy is highly desirable Highly motivated, able to work independently and as part of a team Excellent written and spoken English Preferred Qualifications Experience with assay development and molecular microbiology Familiarity with institutional equipment: Biorad NGC purification system, Mosquito crystallization robot, centrifuges, PCR cyclers, GelDoc, and cell culture incubators Experience using the RQM Institute cryo‑EM facility (Thermo Fisher Talos Arctica, Summit K2 detector, BioQuantum energy filter, Volta phase plate, Aquilos FIB/SEM, Leica DM6 FS/EM cryo‑CLEM), NMR (Bruker 800/700 MHz with cryoprobes), mass spectrometry, super‑resolution imaging, and associated software Benefits Medical, prescription drug and dental coverage Paid vacation, holidays and multiple leave programs Competitive retirement benefits, including defined contribution plans and voluntary tax‑deferred savings options Employee and dependent educational benefits (when applicable) Life insurance coverage Employee discount programs Additional Information All employment offers are contingent on successful completion of pre‑employment screenings, including required immunizations as per Rutgers policy.
