Duties As Assistant Principal- CY-1710, works under the direct supervision of the principal and will be assigned responsibilities for coordination and supervision of complete sections of the school organization. The incumbent assumes the duties of the principal during the principal’s absence or at other times as instructed. Typical work assignments include the following: Supervise and administer all or specific programs and functions of the school, including instruction, food services, student transportation, recreational activities, residential, and special programs. With the advice of and assistance of staff, manage enrollment and grade placement of pupils, internal organization and scheduling of pupils and teachers, aides and service personnel, and arrangement of duty schedules and workweek to meet regular and special situations. Conduct continuing evaluation and appraisal of personnel, programs and pupils using appropriate measurement instruments and empirical data to justify educational programs and measure effectiveness. Assign, supervise and direct professional and non‑para‑professional employees, including scheduling, coordinating work assignments, communicating changes in policies, providing training opportunities, participating in employee selection, overseeing performance management, approving leave, and addressing disciplinary concerns. Resolve complaints of staff, students, parents, and other clients at the lowest level, referring to the next level when appropriate, and maintain good relationships among teachers, parents, and pupils. Within the limits of the annual budget, manage school operations expenditures, and participate in development, proposal writing, implementation, and evaluation of programs and projects to maximize supplemental funding. Requirements Conditions of employment: U.S. Citizenship is required. Applicant must read the "How to Apply" and "Required Documents" sections for accuracy and completeness of application. Male applicants born after 12‑31‑1959 must register under the Military Selective Service Act and the Defense Authorization Act of 1986. A background security investigation is required for all new hires; appointment is subject to successful completion of the investigation and favorable adjudication. Incumbent may be required to operate a government‑owned or leased motor vehicle; a valid driver’s license is required. Must possess and maintain valid Assistant Principal (or equivalent Administrator) licensure/certification in the state where the position is located. This position is exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act. Probationary period is three full contract terms during which fitness and continued employment will be evaluated. Initial appointments under Public Law 95‑561 do not confer competitive or career status. Incumbent must file an annual financial disclosure statement (OGE‑450). This is a multi‑level position; advancement to the full performance level may not occur until the next contract renewal after meeting all requirements for the next higher pay level. Qualifications Basis of rating: All applicants for this position will be rated based upon the documentation submitted. Applications may be further evaluated by a subject‑matter expert. The judgment of qualifications will be based on the material submitted; therefore, it is to the applicant’s advantage to provide complete and thorough responses in a neat and orderly fashion. In order to qualify, you must meet the education, licensure, and experience requirements contained in the approved job category for P.L. 95‑561 described below. Education Requirements Master’s degree with a minimum of 12 graduate semester hours in School Administration from an accredited institution (or equivalent with a completed six‑year university administration program that includes the required hours). Experience Requirements Per Job Category Standard #02, qualifying experience must be in school administration, teaching, counseling, or other professional education experience. Per 62 BIAM, Chapter 11 – Creditable Experience – must be gained after receiving the minimum required degree and in a position essentially identical to the approved professional job category. Human Resources Office will consider paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps). Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience. Level 05: Must have two (2) years of experience in school administration, teaching, counseling, or other professional education experience. Level 06: Must have three (3) years of experience in school administration, teaching, counseling, or other professional education experience. A maximum of two years of teaching or counseling experience can be credited to qualify; the remainder of required creditable experience must be in administrative or other professional education experience related to the position and must include one year of successful experience at the 05 level of difficulty. Certification/Licensure Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid state‑issued Assistant Principal (or equivalent Administrator) licensure or certification in the state where the position is located. Emergency and provisional certificates may be considered under the conditions that the state certification authority has issued such certificates. Applicants with valid state certification in a state other than where the position is located may be considered; if selected, they will be issued a provisional contract to obtain full certification within two full contract terms. Neither foreign nor DODEA certification is acceptable. Transcript Requirements To meet the education requirements, submit a legible copy of transcripts. Official transcripts (photocopy or original) may be submitted; advisement or web‑printouts are NOT acceptable. Official transcripts are required upon selection. Ensure transcripts are not locked or encrypted when uploaded and that all pages (including transcript key) are viewable. Benefits and Compensation Pay tables for Bureau of Indian Education Title 25 positions can be found online. Travel and relocation expenses will not be paid. Direct deposit of pay is required.
