Advanced Practice Nurse

Summary As an Advanced Practice Nurse at the GS-0610-13, you will be part of the Workforce Engagement and Accommodation Resources (WEAR) Division, Office for Civil Rights, U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). If selected, you will be responsible for providing expert clinical review and analysis of medical documentation submitted in connection with the agency's Reasonable Accommodation (RA) program and Workers' Compensation matters. Duties Conducts thorough evaluations and reviews of medical documentation submitted by employees and applicants in support of RA requests to determine sufficiency, relevance, and consistency with the nature of the accommodation sought. Serves as a clinical resource to agency officials, management, RA managers, and human resources EEO specialists, among others, on complex medical terminology, diagnostic criteria, and the interpretation of functional capacity evaluations. Serves as the agency's primary point of contact for medical case review in Federal Employees’ Compensation Act (FECA) claims, coordinating with the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Workers' Compensation Programs (OWCP), as needed. Prepares written medical summaries and recommendations for inclusion in the RA program and workers' compensation case files. Advises on compliance with medical privacy requirements, including the confidentiality provisions of the Rehabilitation Act and applicable Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) considerations for third-party medical information. Requirements Must be a U.S. Citizen or National Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service Suitable for Federal employment, determined by a background investigation May be required to successfully complete a probationary period Incumbent must have earned a professional medical degree from an accredited professional nursing educational program. Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) positions – incumbent must possess a graduate or higher-level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position. Qualifications For the GS-13 you must meet both the basic requirements and the minimum qualifications requirement: Basic Requirement(s) Education: A graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: For Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) positions, applicants must possess a graduate or higher-level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position. Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Additional License Requirements for Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: Applicants for Advanced Practice Nurse positions must be licensed or registered by a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position. The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain any licensure requirements. If licenses are not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee will be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below: Minimum Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-12) in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: (1) evaluating and reviewing medical documentation submitted in support of reasonable accommodation requests; (2) identifying gaps or inconsistencies in submitted medical documentation; (3) reviewing medical evidence submitted in connection with workers' compensation claims to assess consistency with reported workplace injuries or conditions; (4) developing and delivering training on reasonable accommodation, disability employment, and/or accessibility requirements. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Enrollment in Continuous Vetting will result in automated record checks being conducted throughout one's employment with the EEOC. The successful candidate will also be enrolled into FBI's Rap Back service, which will allow the EEOC to receive notification from the FBI of criminal matters (e.g., arrests, charges, convictions) involving enrolled individuals in near real-time.
