Hospitality Operations Manager, Residential Dining

Overview The Hospitality Operations Manager is the Ambassador for Yale Hospitality, supporting an Area General Manager/Resident General Manager and reporting to the Managing Director of Residential Operations. The role oversees front‑of‑house operations for Yale’s residential dining system, ensuring food quality, preparation, presentation and cleanliness at the highest standards. The manager supervises a team of 25 to 30 unionized staff and chefs, develops service standards, implements training, and ensures proper food handling and sanitation. Required Skills and Abilities Exceptional communication skills to interact effectively with university constituents, including Heads of College and Deans. ServSafe certified with a valid driver’s license. Strong leadership and supervision skills for a diverse work staff, including bargaining unit employees. Proficient with food‑service management systems, recipe development, menu‑management systems, database management, Microsoft Office, internet, and email. Ability to coach, develop, and manage a team of unionized employees. Experience planning and executing large‑scale catering events. Principal Responsibilities Plan, organize and manage operations within Yale Hospitality, including residential student meals, executive dining, and conference services. Support the Resident General Manager in designing a quality experience, covering set‑up, decoration, menu identifiers, linen, props, daily service, special events, theme dinners, and catered functions. Collaborate with the Area General Manager and Resident General Managers to ensure highest customer service levels by developing and overseeing food‑service standards, policies, quality assurance, training, food handling, and sanitation. Conduct regular service inspections and evaluations of food preparation, service, station appearance, cleanliness, sanitation of production and service areas, equipment, and uniform compliance. Collect guest feedback through surveys and direct dialogue. Implement and monitor housekeeping, sanitation, and safety regulations. Build and maintain relationships with Heads of Colleges, faculty, administration, and students. Supervise the dining room during meal periods and special events. Monitor revenue and expenses for all cost centers by reviewing weekly and monthly financial reports. Process payroll, scheduling, and attendance for staff within an assigned cluster. Provide purchasing control and inventory maintenance support. Prepare operational reports and analyses, identify progress and adverse trends, and recommend actions. Interview, select, train, evaluate, and conduct performance management of service and support staff. Maintain job satisfaction, resolve issues promptly, and respond to grievances as required. Maintain compliance with university policies and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Hotel/Restaurant Management or a related field and four (4) years of prior service‑management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Required Licenses / Certifications ServSafe certification and a valid driver’s license. Physical Requirements Sustained standing; frequent bending, moving, lifting, and carrying supplies, equipment, and materials up to 25 lb without assistance from floor to waist height and 20 lb to shoulder height. Ability to carry supplies up or down stairs if necessary. Benefits Salary: $68,000 – $120,500 per year.
