One‑on‑one position. Fair Labor Standards Act Status: Non‑Exempt. Qualifications Documentation verifying a high school diploma or GED. One of the following: official transcripts verifying an Associate's degree (90 quarter, 60 semester) OR 72 quarter or 48 semester credits from an accredited institution; OR ETS ParaPro Assessment result of 461 or higher. One year of related experience working with children in an educational setting (preferred). Successful experience as part of an educational team (preferred). Exemplary interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment, supporting classroom or program goals. Excellent problem‑solving, analytical, and conflict‑resolution skills and ability to think quickly. Experience working with children with moderate to severe disabilities (preferred). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Effective communication with and appreciation for individuals from diverse socio‑economic backgrounds. Ability to respond to evasive and aggressive behavior of students. Attendance at mandatory weekend training and successful completion of CPI, de‑escalation, and physical restraint training as required. Ability to learn and use a computer monitor, keyboard, and appropriate adaptive technologies. Implementation of educational programs and management of student behavior with direction from the teacher. Maintenance of confidentiality. Flexibility with assigned tasks and schedules. Development of relationships and supportive roles with children who have mental or physical disabilities. Other Requirements Ability to lift, move, and physically restrain a child as the job requires. Ability to escort students safely around school buildings, grounds, and in the community. Ability to observe student behavior and communicate observations to appropriate service providers. Regular attendance to carry out duties and responsibilities. Essential Functions Treat co‑workers, supervisors, students, parents, and others with dignity and respect at all times. Serve as a positive role model for students. Work flexibly and cooperatively. Assist the teacher in implementing and evaluating goals and objectives on individual student IEPs, participate in team meetings. Manage behavior and assist students during class activities in small groups or individually, providing instructional assistance as directed. Support teacher in preparing materials, maintaining data records, and data entry. De‑escalate students having an emotional/behavioral crisis; carry out behavior management plans. Dispense medication following district policy. Care for personal hygiene needs of students with disabilities (feeding, diapering, toileting, bathing, lifting, tube feeding, suctioning, etc.). Assist with teaching materials and record keeping. Correct papers and homework using a rubric or key. Observe assigned students in various settings and intervene as appropriate for safety. Attend training meetings to broaden expertise. Assist students on and off buses if required. Perform other tasks as assigned by administrator in alignment with job classification. Benefits and Compensation Salary range: New employees start at the minimum hourly rate in the salary range. Employees with verified prior experience may receive experience credit.
