Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/x) in Causal Inference & Health – Economics: AI in Clinical Practice The position is temporary and full‑time, 2‑year fully funded postdoctoral position within the research cluster "Digital Health". It focuses on empirical research on the deployment of clinical AI and other health technologies at scale. Project Background We examine the deployment of AI‑based clinical decision support tools in large academic medical centers, evaluating their impact on healthcare delivery. The initial suite of projects will evaluate the first enterprise‑level deployment in the United States and complementary projects on new medical algorithms. Responsibilities Conduct interdisciplinary research as part of multi‑year projects, including support for data science, health economics, and econometrics aspects under the mentorship of the HPI Principal Investigator, Prof. Ariel Dora Stern. Design future evaluations and technology adoption studies. Support design, coordination, and conduct of social science research such as surveys and RCTs. Participate in research group activities of the Digital Health Cluster and the Chair for Digital Health, Economics, and Policy. Support teaching and supervision activities, including advising master’s theses. Conduct extended research stays in New York and Cambridge, and participate in partnership workshops. Coordinate responsibilities between research sites and overall project management. Qualifications A doctoral degree in economics, statistics, epidemiology, digital health or a related field with a strong record of first‑authored empirical work. Programming experience in R and/or Python. Hands‑on experience with causal inference methods (matching, difference‑in‑differences, IV, RDD, RCTs) and comfort working with large administrative or EHR/claims datasets; prior experience with hospital or real‑world data is a strong plus. Independent working style, both analytical and operational. Excellent research and communication skills in English. Some knowledge of German may be helpful. Enthusiasm for AI in healthcare, digital health, new delivery modalities, and interdisciplinary research.
