Development Coordinator

The Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) is the nation’s leading nonprofit organization representing people with hearing loss. The Development Coordinator supports the operations and implementation of the Walk4Hearing program under the direction of the Development and Engagement Manager. The primary responsibility of this role is to support the successful execution of HLAA’s Walk4Hearing events in designated geographic areas, working closely with volunteers, teams, partners, and community stakeholders to achieve participation and fundraising goals and create meaningful, impactful events. Walk4Hearing is our community of support in action—connecting and empowering people with hearing loss to thrive. The Development Coordinator will: Assist the Development and Engagement Manager, as directed, to ensure the success of Walk4Hearing events. Organize designated Walk4Hearing events in cooperation with local HLAA Chapters and Walk committees, including developing planning timelines and budgets, coordinating program agendas and logistics, and conducting event feedback and evaluation. Manage event logistics, including venue selection, permits, equipment rentals, speakers and entertainment, vendor coordination, registration, sponsor tables, snacks, and event setup. Travel to designated Walk sites and oversee event setup, logistics, vendors, volunteers, registration, sponsor areas, and other onsite needs. Recruit, cultivate, train, manage, and support volunteer leaders, committees, and volunteers to achieve fundraising, participation, and retention goals. Foster strong relationships with volunteers by providing ongoing communication, fundraising guidance, support, recognition, training, and leadership opportunities. Oversee volunteer committees, ensuring volunteers are effectively assigned roles and receive appropriate communication, training, and support. Develop and implement volunteer retention strategies to encourage continued involvement and support. Manage the Donor Drive database, including preparing for launch and updates, maintaining accurate data records, tracking participation, providing reports, assisting walkers, teams, donors, and other constituents with the fundraising platform and tools, and reconciling final fundraising results for each Walk. Write and communicate inspiring coaching emails and other communications to team captains, teams, walkers, donors, and volunteers. Work with staff to achieve fundraising, participation, and retention goals through engagement and fundraising efforts involving partners and teams, while providing volunteers with fundraising guidance and support. Secure local alliances and sponsors for individual Walks to meet annual goals. Ensure event expenses align with the approved strategic budget. Contribute to marketing and promotional strategies that increase awareness of HLAA and Walk4Hearing and generate public interest and media attention for events. Assist in developing recognition activities to honor top fundraisers, donors, volunteers, and other contributors. Collect stories of impact from walkers and share them with the community to support engagement and awareness. Ensure HLAA's mission and brand are consistently integrated into fundraising activities, communications, and volunteer engagement. Develop and maintain current knowledge of hearing health, hearing loss issues, and HLAA initiatives. Steward Partner and Alliance relationships. Perform other duties as assigned. Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience. 2-3 years of related experience in nonprofit fundraising or community building, including events, sponsorship recruitment or volunteer engagement. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Experience with fundraising platforms such as DonorDrive is a plus Strong relationship-building skills, a positive outlook, and commitment to working as a team. Ability to establish collaborative relationships and flexibility to work with a variety of people, mostly volunteers, with different styles and personalities. Excellent writing and verbal communication skills. Self-starter and ability to work independently while handling multiple priorities. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail. Proficient in Microsoft 365 products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, OneNote, Outlook, Teams, etc. Comfortable embracing new technologies and using digital tools, such as Zoom, Asana, etc. Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Work requires travel and weekend and/or evening work. Ability to lift a 20-pound box, be on your feet for 6-8 hours and have the endurance to execute an event in a short amount of time. Travel to HLAA annual convention and walk sites are required.
