Assistant Chief Pharmacy Officer
The Assistant Chief Pharmacy Officer advises the Associate Chief Pharmacy Officer on strategic planning and provides administrative leadership and direction within the pharmacy service lines to drive financial performance and operational excellence. Oversees system-wide pharmacy procurement, distribution, logistics, and inventory optimization to ensure cost-effective, compliant, and reliable medication supply. This individual acts as a liaison between UCD Health leadership and Pharmacy Leaders to create a culture of open communication within a safe and supportive environment. This position implements and maintains the business goals and objectives which assures fiscally viable and optimal service delivery through Pharmacy Supply Chain Services, including consolidated service center, centralized pharmacy procurement, centralized pharmacy distribution and logistics, and inventory optimization across health-system. Department financial analysis and planning, and compliance on financial regulatory standards. This role ensures that all areas operate within the established policies, procedures and in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and guidelines.
Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position California Pharmacist License or license eligible. If license eligible, possess a valid California license at the time of hire. Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD) from an accredited school of pharmacy, or equivalent training Completion of Post Graduate Year One (PGY1) residency with four (4) years of work experience in pharmacy supply chain, pharmacy finance, or health system pharmacy operations, or completion of Postgraduate Year Two (PGY2) residency with three (3) years of work experience in pharmacy supply chain, pharmacy finance, or health system pharmacy operations, or five (5) years of experience in pharmacy supply chain, pharmacy finance, or health system pharmacy operations Experience in using or in managing EMR and inventory management software for health system pharmacy Experience in financial modeling, forecasting, and data analysis Experience in use of financial analysis tools, business analytics software, and data visualization platforms Management experience in pharmacy supply chain, pharmacy finance, or health system pharmacy operations Comprehensive knowledge of pharmacy law policies, practices and systems, spend management techniques, and accounts payable Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail Strong leadership qualities and the ability to lead and motivate a team Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities Written and oral communication skills to clearly & concisely develop business plans, proposals, presentations, and financial reports Written and oral communication skills to clearly & concisely articulate expectations to technical and clinical staff as part of a new system integration/change Written and oral communication skills to clearly and concisely provide information, explanations and instructions to, and to elicit information from others with varying levels of ability to understand. Department Overview UC Davis Health is a nationally recognized leader in the provision of high-quality, patient-centered care, based in the Greater Sacramento area of Northern California. UC Davis Health has a Comprehensive Cancer Center, internationally recognized MIND Institute, and a nationally ranked pediatric hospital. The UC Davis acute care hospital has 646 beds and an ambulatory care service area spanning north to the Oregon border, east to Nevada, and down the Central Valley to Fresno, California, covering 65,000 square miles across 33 counties. The Department of Pharmacy is a dynamic, integral, and critical part of patient care provided by UC Davis Health. As a department of greater than 600 professional, technical, and administrative support personnel, we focus on providing patient-centered medication management that optimizes outcomes through practice, education, research, and leadership through the continuum of care. We also have the largest pharmacy residency program in the country with 46 total residents in 13 different programs. The Department of Pharmacy offers comprehensive pharmaceutical services (unit dose, IV admixtures, clinical services, infusion pumps, and teaching) throughout the health system complex 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The pharmacy services encompass inpatient pharmacy services as well as an expansive footprint in the ambulatory care space where we have clinical pharmacists embedded within our clinics and specialty care locations. Our operational teams support the health system enterprise with three inpatient pharmacies, five outpatient pharmacies, two infusion pharmacies, a home infusion service line, and the full complement of pharmacy purchasing, stores, and distribution.
Department Specific Job Scope The Assistant Chief Pharmacy Officer works to plan, implement, and direct ongoing activities within the areas of responsibilities that optimize spend management while practicing fiscal prudence and budgetary compliance; works closely with the Associate Chief Pharmacy Officer and Chief Pharmacy Officer to develop business and operating plans, ensures operational efficiency, productivity and effectiveness of services including the timely delivery of information.
