Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN UP Specialty: Emergency Department Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum three (3) years of relevant nursing experience License: State RN License in good standing Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS Must-Have: Safety standards, nursing process, patient assessment, care planning, nursing interventions Description: The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame. The RN provides care to these patients utilizing the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, financial and human resources, within the institution's philosophy. Essential functions include performing all responsibilities and duties required by the unit. The RN implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. Maintaining up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided ensures the integration of information for use by the healthcare team. An initial assessment is completed upon patient admission, and an appropriate plan of care is developed in accordance with unit standards, based on patient and family needs. The RN implements the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. Continuous evaluation leads to modifications of the plan of care. The RN takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents. Effective communication with others is essential, directly and privately when necessary, to resolve issues. Constructive feedback is offered to assist in the professional development of peers, and conferring with colleagues expands the knowledge base. The RN identifies personal learning needs and takes the initiative to begin appropriate solutions. All departmental competencies are fulfilled. Department-specific functions include implementing procedures and theories specific to emergency department nursing. Patient assessment and care plans are developed in collaboration with providers, family, and the patient. The plan of care is executed and nursing interventions are implemented. Modifications to the care plan are made based on continuous assessment. Accountability for patient and staff safety requires adherence to safety standards and the correction/reporting of hazards. Effective communication and collaboration with staff, visitors, and families promote a healthy and healing work environment. Feedback is provided to peers to support professional development, increase knowledge, and enhance problem-solving. Accurate and up-to-date patient records and documentation are maintained. A rotation of night shifts is required, with every other weekend included. No block scheduling is permitted.
