The RN provides care to patients using the nursing process, nursing trends, and technology. The RN maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided. Initial assessments are completed upon patient admission. The RN develops an appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit standards, based on patient and family needs. Plans of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures are executed effectively. The RN modifies the plan of care based on continuous evaluation. Responsibility for patient and employee safety is taken by reporting and correcting safety hazards and incidents. Effective communication with others is essential to resolve issues directly and privately when necessary. Constructive feedback is offered to assist in professional development. Collegial discussions expand knowledge bases. Self-identified learning needs are initiated for appropriate solutions. All departmental competencies must be fulfilled. Specific to ED nursing, the RN implements unique procedures and theories. Patient assessments and care plan development occur in collaboration with providers, family, and patients. Plans of care and nursing interventions are executed. Care plans are modified based on ongoing assessment. The RN is responsible for patient and staff safety through appropriate interventions. Adhering to safety standards and correcting/reporting hazards is critical. Effective communication and collaboration with staff, visitors, and families promote a healthy work environment. Accurate and up-to-date patient records and documentation are maintained.
