Responsibilities Nursing is the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, communities, and populations (ANA, 2010). Garnet Health Medical Center clinical nurses are guided by the New York State Nurse Practice Act, the American Nurses Association guide to the Code of Ethics for Nurses, the Essential Guide to Nursing Practice, Jean Watson’s Nursing Philosophy and Science of Caring, the Garnet Health Medical Center Plan for Nursing Quality and Safety, and the Garnet Health Medical Center Nursing Strategic Plan (NSP). Salary and Compensation The compensation range for the role is $56.23 hourly. Qualifications Licensure: Active New York State Nursing License in good standing Education: Associate, Baccalaureate (preferred), Master’s, or Doctorate Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing. Certification: American Nurses Association endorsed Certifications or Academy of Medical‑Surgical Nurses Certification Preferred (*Based on specialty hours of work requirement). Physical Demands Considerable standing, walking, reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, and visual demands. New hires must be able to perform RN essential physical functioning demands as determined by Employee Health / Pre‑Screening Assessment. Assistance required if lifting more than 35 lbs of a patient’s weight. Ergonomic stressors include moderate to frequent heavy lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring of patients. Participation in Safe Patient Handling initiatives is required. Compliance with American with Disability Act Requirements for essential position responsibilities, with or without reasonable accommodation. Mental Demands Ability to foster collaborative relationships, work well under pressure, organize and synthesize new information, and prioritize tasks. Critical thinking, analytical skills, and flexibility are required. Ability to multi‑task and maintain detailed attention in an environment with frequent interruptions. Work schedules may include irregular hours, including nights and weekends. Working Conditions ORSF abides with the New York Department of Labor / Nursing Licensure Board recommendation on the 16‑hour work limit. OSHA Directive CPL‑03‑00‑016 Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances. Possible exposure to blood and other potentially infectious material. Subject to varying and unpredictable situations. Handles emergency and crisis situations. Must wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment, such as gloves, safety glasses, respirators, coveralls, vests, lead vests, and full‑body suits. May have contact with chemical, radiological, physical, electrical, mechanical, or other workplace hazards. Patient and Staff Safety Recognizes the importance of safety precautions related to the specific department and area of responsibility. Consistently utilizes protocols to enhance patient and staff safety in daily operations. Identifies and reports potential dangerous situations that could cause medical error or harm. Immediately takes action to minimize injury risk and reports incidents to supervisors and through the MIDAS RDE system. Participates in Root Cause Analysis and other efforts to reduce medical errors and harm. Training Mandatory completion of annual and required training within specified time frames. All clinical nurses must be competent in Basic Life Support (BLS) and keep it current. In certain clinical areas, additional AHA training may be required.
