Job Description

The Maintenance Manager leads all facility and equipment maintenance operations within a manufacturing environment. This role oversees the maintenance team, manages preventive and predictive maintenance programs, supports capital projects, and ensures the reliability of building systems and production equipment. The Maintenance Manager drives continuous improvement, reduces downtime, and partners closely with plant leadership to support operational excellence and safety.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, train, and develop maintenance team members, providing clear performance expectations and regular feedback.
• Supervise daily maintenance activities, including work order management, repairs, and preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
• Oversee building systems and infrastructure, including production equipment, HVAC, lighting, grounds, and overall facility upkeep.
• Drive improvements that reduce equipment downtime, increase production efficiency, and enhance overall equipment reliability.
• Coordinate and manage contractors, vendors, and outside service providers to ensure quality and timely completion of work.
• Plan, manage, and execute capital improvement projects, equipment installations, and facility upgrades from concept through completion.
• Develop, manage, and monitor maintenance, labor, and facility budgets, ensuring cost-effective use of resources.
• Maintain an organized spare parts inventory and control maintenance-related costs to support efficient operations.
• Ensure strict compliance with safety standards, environmental regulations, and applicable federal and state laws.
• Promote and support lean manufacturing initiatives, including 5S, continuous improvement, and standard work practices.
• Collaborate closely with Production, Quality, and Plant Leadership to align maintenance activities with operational goals.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues affecting equipment performance.
• Support and perform PLC maintenance and PLC troubleshooting to minimize control system-related downtime.
• Utilize Microsoft Office and other software tools to track maintenance activities, analyze data, and prepare reports.
• Remain available for on-call support as needed and provide flexibility to address off-shift, weekend, or emergency maintenance needs.

Essential Skills

• Minimum 5 years of progressive maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
• At least 2 years of leadership or supervisory experience managing maintenance personnel.
• Strong troubleshooting skills in electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
• Hands-on experience with maintenance management, supervision, and coordination of maintenance technicians.
• Demonstrated ability to manage preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
• Experience overseeing capital projects, equipment installations, and facility upgrades.
• Proven ability to develop and manage maintenance, labor, and facility budgets.
• Ability to read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for reporting, scheduling, and data analysis.
• Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills with a focus on team development.
• Solid understanding of safety practices and environmental regulations within a manufacturing setting.
• Experience with PLC maintenance and PLC troubleshooting.
• Ability to supervise maintenance technicians and provide clear direction on daily activities.
• Flexibility to support occasional overtime, weekends, and off-shift needs when required.
• Capability to lead continuous improvement efforts and support lean manufacturing initiatives such as 5S.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience in maintenance management within a manufacturing or production facility.
• Experience working with mechanical, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems in an industrial environment.
• Familiarity with building systems, HVAC, lighting, and facility infrastructure.
• Ability to effectively coordinate contractors, vendors, and outside service providers.
• Experience maintaining spare parts inventory and implementing cost-control measures.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced environment and prioritizing multiple maintenance activities.
• Commitment to safety, integrity, innovation, and teamwork in daily operations.
• High level of accountability and ownership over equipment reliability and facility condition.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in documentation and maintenance planning.

Work Environment

This position is based in an indoor, non-climate-controlled manufacturing and production facility. The work involves regular interaction with production equipment, building systems, and industrial machinery in a fast-paced, operational environment. The role follows a Monday through Friday schedule from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with the expectation of being on-call 24/7 to address urgent maintenance needs. The setting emphasizes safety and adherence to regulations, with close collaboration among production, quality, and plant leadership teams.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rocky Mount, VA.

The pay range for this position is $48.08 - $113.95/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in Rocky Mount,VA.
