Job ID : 56861 Agency : Department of Human Services Location : Randolph County, Illinois Position : Medical Director – Psychiatry, Chester Mental Health Center Salary : $26,040 – $28,040 per month ($312,480 – $336,480 annually) Opening Date : 06/30/2026 Closing Date : 07/28/2026 Position Overview The Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery seeks a Medical Director with an Illinois Physician and Surgeon License and specialty in Psychiatry to lead medical services at the Chester Mental Health Center. The Director will oversee clinical practice, supervise staff, and develop policies to advance patient recovery. Essential Functions Serve as Medical Director for the Chester Mental Health Center. Act as full‑line supervisor and mentor for clinical staff. Develop, plan, and monitor ancillary medical services, including dentistry, optometry, EEG, and contractual medical services. Direct, design, and implement policies and procedures to meet accreditation and regulatory requirements. Provide psychiatry services by evaluating, treating, and monitoring patients. Perform additional duties as required within the scope of the role. Minimum Qualifications Valid State of Illinois Physician and Surgeon License. American Board Certification in Psychiatry. At least three (3) years of substantive medical administrative experience in directing, planning, and evaluating a medical/clinical program. Preferred Qualifications Five (5) years of professional experience coordinating medical health programs across disciplines. Five (5) years of experience managing and evaluating medical care delivery, including incident investigation. Five (5) years of supervising medical staff and other medical professionals. Five (5) years of experience recommending program changes and implementing psychiatry best practices. Five (5) years of providing technical training and stakeholder communication on medical services. Two (2) years of quality assurance assessments in medical services. Conditions of Employment Possession of a valid Illinois Controlled Substance License. Possession of a valid United States Drug Enforcement Administration Certificate of Registration. Appointment to the medical staff association of Chester Mental Health Center within 30 days of employment. Travel for job duties and court testimony as required. Physical ability to walk, stand, stoop, bend, lift or exert up to 20 pounds occasionally. Participation in patient management interventions, including restraint interventions when necessary. Maintenance of current Basic Life Support certification. Availability to serve as Medical Officer of the Day after business hours, weekends, and holidays. Compliance with revolving‑door restrictions and ethical filing requirements as specified in Illinois statutes. Clearance through IDHS background check and drug screening for prohibited substances.
