Senior Manager – Financial Reporting & Technical AccountingJob LocationChicago, ILJob SummaryRole will report directly into the Chief Accounting Officer and be responsible for owning all technical accounting and accounting policy matters for the Company, including but not limited to debt modifications/refinancings, goodwill impairment analyses, and revenue recognition. The role will lead the preparation of the quarterly financial reporting to lenders and annual U.S. GAAP financial statements. The role will also coordinate the preparation of the annual tax provision and annual tax compliance filings with third-party tax providers and assist with other controllership activities as required. In addition to reporting to the CAO, the role will have direct interactions with the global CFO, segment CFOs, and business unit finance directors. Individual will also work cross-functionally with FP&A and Treasury.ResponsibilitiesTechnical Accounting:Perform technical accounting research and analysis related to complex transactions and other arrangements. Such transactions may include:Debt modifications/refinancingsSegment and reporting unit analysesAnnual goodwill impairment testingLong-lived asset impairmentsBusiness combinationsLease accountingTechnical conclusionsAccounting process(es)Revenue recognitionFixed asset accountingInventory accountingLead the Company’s adoption of new accounting standards, as necessaryFinancial ReportingLead preparation of the quarterly financial statements to lenders, including balance sheet, income statement, and statement of cash flowsLead preparation of the annual audited financial statements, ensuring disclosures are complete and accurate in accordance with US GAAP disclosure requirementsEnsure complex transactions (debt refinancings, acquisitions, etc.) are appropriately reflected and disclosed Accounting Policies and Controls:Lead project to update the Company’s accounting policies and procedures, including education/training related to changes in policyOwner and reviewer of quarterly certification questionnairesTax:Oversee the Company’s annual tax provision processOwn relationship with 3rdparty tax provision providerManage PBC process to ensure timely completion of annual tax provisionServe as liaison between 3rdparty tax provision provider and external auditors/tax compliance providersOversee the Company’s overall global tax complianceOwn relationship with 3rdparty tax compliance providers (both domestic and international)Manage PBC process with 3rdparty provider(s)Review output from 3rdparty providers to ensure accurate filingsFollow-up with relevant taxing authorities (federal, state, etc.) and ensure timely resolution of tax notices/issuesOversee/manage the completion of annual transfer pricing studies with 3rdparty providerEnsure timely and accurate quarterly tax paymentsOversee the quarterly cash tax forecast with 3rdparty providerAssist in providing guidance on tax implications of proposed business transactions Other:Ad hoc involvement in sale process and/or mergers and acquisitions, including:Due diligenceAccounting integrationPurchase accountingSupport various aspects of the year-end audit, including but not limited to:Coordination of annual physical inventory counts with external auditorsAlign with external auditors on accounting treatment for unusual transactionsAssist in month-end close activities as required (review account reconciliations, review journal entries, etc.)Other special projects as requiredSkills and AbilitiesStrong knowledge of U.S. GAAP technical accounting matters and ability to perform technical accounting research in areas such as goodwill, leases, revenue recognition, and business combinationsHigh-level understanding of U.S. tax compliance requirements and ASC 740 tax accountingExposure to PCAOB audit requirements a plusExcellent written and verbal communications skillsStrong analytical and organizational skillsDeadline driven with keen attention to detailsAbility to work independently to solve problemsExperience5 – 8 years of public accounting or commensurate industry experienceCPA a mustCompensationThe listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of Pregis’s total compensation package. Compensation also includes a competitive benefits package and may also include bonuses, and other on-the-spot recognition.
