ENGINEERING & MAINTENANCE MANAGER I

Job Overview McCormick & Company, Inc. is a global leader in the spice, flavor, and seasonings industry. Zatarain's, a leader in New Orleans cuisine – owned by McCormick – is seeking a full‑time Engineering & Maintenance Manager, reporting to the Plant Manager. This role will work in Zatarain's Plant, located at 82 1st Street, Gretna, Louisiana. Under the direction of the Plant Manager, the Engineering & Maintenance Manager directs the activities of Project Engineering, Process Engineering, Building Maintenance, Security, and Maintenance Operations. The incumbent is responsible for all Divisional, Plant and Departmental goals including reliability, cost reduction, waste reduction, safety, quality and sanitation improvements, downtime reduction, and compliance with established policies and procedures. The position monitors progress toward goals and ensures that capital projects and resources are optimally utilized. Key Roles and Responsibilities Manage day‑to‑day activities of Maintenance department, Process Engineering, Project Engineering, and outside building contractors. Set goals, priorities, monitor progress, and evaluate performance of staff to ensure maximum benefit from resources expended. Create an empowered environment (MHPS), ensuring that the Engineering & Maintenance organization and its people understand the goals and objectives (OGSMs) of the business and have the resources and support to achieve them. Establish an environment that ensures and supports open and healthy communications. Prepare and manage Capital Asset Acquisition Proposal (CAAP) annual budget. Ensure projects are planned properly to provide sufficient funding, review data to ensure results are achievable, and obtain necessary approvals. Closely monitor projects to ensure they are completed as planned and funds are used appropriately. On an ongoing basis, initiate design changes and modifications to improve machine efficiency, facilitate packaging design changes and cost reductions, and expand the capability of existing equipment to handle new products. Strategic Planning Develop strategic capital plans ensuring acceptable ROI for replacement of worn or obsolete equipment, expansion of capacity to meet sales growth, and equipment modification or replacement related to packaging changes or cost reduction. Coordinate selection, design, and layout of processing and packaging machinery to ensure efficiency, optimum space utilization, and adequate production capacity. Process & Program Standardization Ensure all engineering and maintenance processes are fully documented (including Capital Start‑up Plans, SOPs, DOPs, and run documents) and implement any changes. Accountable for developing and implementing effective preventive maintenance programs, establishing a proficient maintenance stores procurement and inventory control system. Risk Management Meet all regulatory requirements pertaining to waste disposal, air emissions, and facility permits and codes. File all regulatory documents with appropriate Federal, State, and Local Government agencies. Ensure safety and security measures are in place for the facility, including maintenance of sprinkler systems, fire‑fighting equipment, and internal alarm and evacuation system. Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements for waste disposal, emissions, and facility permits. Budget Management Create operating budgets and capital budgets with other leadership team members. Manage department expense budgets with appropriate accounting information and support. Participate in the business planning and budgeting process. Develop short and long‑term cost containment/reduction strategies. Manage operating budget for Engineering, Facilities, and Maintenance. Experience Required Bachelor's Degree (required). Minimum 7+ years experience in manufacturing, pharmaceutical, or chemical industries with progressive leadership experience. Shop floor/information systems experience (PC, PLC, Robotics). Process engineering and analytical process mapping experience. Knowledge of CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) and preventive maintenance practices. Experience in food processing is an asset.
