ENGINEERING DIVISION MANAGER (CHIEF TRAFFIC ENGINEER) (CLASS CODE 4028)

Overview Professional, supervisory, administrative, and technical work directing and evaluating all activities of the Traffic Division of the Department of Public Works—including overseeing a staff of professional engineering, technical, and administrative employees. This position provides oversight of complex traffic management projects, ensuring safe and efficient roadways for all users. Responsibilities include managing approximately 400 signalized intersections, overseeing multimodal transportation systems, coordinating street signage, and handling right‑of‑way permits. This role aligns traffic policies with modern engineering standards, reduces congestion, and improves public safety. Qualifications Professional engineering registration required. Out‑of‑state registrations acceptable; proof must be provided upon hire if not registered in Louisiana. Seven (7) years of professional engineering experience, with at least two (2) years of supervisory responsibilities and four (4) years in traffic operations engineering. Preferred civil, transportation, traffic, mechanical, electrical, or general engineering background. Preferred current certification as a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) or eligibility to take the PTOE exam. Promotional Path Professional engineering registration in Louisiana. Four (4) years of exempt‑level professional traffic engineering experience, including at least two (2) years of supervisory responsibilities. Equal or higher pay grade than 96. Verification Prior to appointment, the hiring agency must verify the professional engineer's registration/license claimed by the applicant. If selected, original documents of qualifying credentials must be provided before the start date.
