Job Summary: The Fire Brigade Supervisor is responsible for leading and supervising Industrial Firefighters while ensuring a constant state of operational readiness for all‑hazards emergency response. The Supervisor serves as the on‑duty tactical leader during emergencies, directing brigade operations to protect life, property, and business continuity through effective response to fires, medical emergencies, and other critical events. The Supervisor oversees shift training, equipment readiness, audits, and compliance with established emergency response procedures while fostering a culture of professionalism, accountability, and continuous improvement. This role requires effective performance in high‑pressure environments, strong organizational and communication skills, and close collaboration with Emergency Management, Business Continuity, Safety, PECNA Health, and other stakeholders to support the facility’s emergency preparedness and resilience. Shift: 6AM–6:30PM Days, C-Shift (Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Every Other Wednesday) Essential Duties: Functional Leadership & Operations: Holds full accountability for operational readiness, performance, and effectiveness of the assigned shift. Serves as on‑duty Fire Brigade Officer and assumes Incident Command during emergency response until formally transferred. Establishes incident objectives, tactical strategy, and resource deployment aligned with Incident Command System (ICS) principles. Directs and coordinates all Fire Brigade operations across fire suppression, rescue, EMS, and HAZMAT response. Evaluates incident conditions and adjusts strategy in real time to ensure safe and effective outcomes. Ensures implementation and consistent application of Fire Brigade policies, procedures, and operational standards. Leads shift briefings, operational planning, and readiness alignment. Strategic Alignment & Continuous Improvement: Owns identification, prioritization, and resolution of systemic risks and operational capability gaps. Leads incident investigations, corrective action planning, and continuous improvement strategies. Ensures corrective actions are implemented, tracked, and sustained across shifts. Partners with Emergency Management and site leadership to drive long‑term program improvements and readiness strategy. Team Development & Knowledge Sharing: Owns the training strategy, competency framework, and readiness assurance for assigned shift personnel. Approves and oversees training plans to ensure alignment with regulatory, organizational, and operational requirements. Evaluates training effectiveness and adjusts programs to address gaps and evolving risks. Leads, mentors, and formally evaluates personnel performance and development. Cross‑Functional Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement: Serves as primary shift contact for emergency response coordination with site leadership and external agencies. Leads cross‑functional and multi‑agency coordination during emergency and preparedness activities. Represents the Fire Brigade in operational planning, risk discussions, and site emergency preparedness initiatives. Ensures effective communication and alignment across stakeholders. Quality, Safety, Compliance, & Risk Management: Holds accountability for compliance performance, audit readiness, and regulatory adherence for assigned shift. Interprets applicable regulations and ensures consistent implementation across operations. Conducts risk assessments, inspections, and ensures timely resolution of identified issues. Escalates compliance risks and ensures corrective actions are implemented and sustained. Supervisory Responsibilities: Provides direct leadership and oversight for Industrial Firefighters, including performance management, coaching, and accountability for shift operations. Travel Requirement: Minimal local travel may be required, with occasional travel to other locations for training or business needs. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements: Employers may require PPE such as a full Tyvek suit, safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, face mask, bump cap, and a full hazmat suit that includes a respirator. Qualifications Requirements – Required and/or Preferred Education, Certifications, and Licenses: Required: Associate’s Degree in Fire Science, Emergency Management, or a related field. Relevant work experience may substitute for required education. Firefighter I and II Certification. Fire Officer I Certification or minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Fire Officer within a municipal, industrial, military, or combination fire department. FEMA IS‑100, IS‑200, IS‑700, and IS‑800 certifications. Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Science, Emergency Management, or a related field. EMT Certification. HazMat Technician Certification. Confined Space Rescue Certification. Fire Instructor I Certification. Additional Incident Command System (ICS) or National Incident Management System (NIMS) leadership coursework. Essential Qualifications: 3+ years of progressive leadership experience in emergency response or related operations. Demonstrated ability to lead complex, large‑scale technical or manufacturing programs with significant capital investment and cross‑functional impact. Experience in emergency response operations, including fire suppression, rescue, medical incidents, or hazardous materials response. Knowledge of and experience with the Incident Command System (ICS) and National Incident Management System (NIMS). Strong understanding of fire behavior, suppression tactics, risk management, and emergency operations. Demonstrates the ability to wear and operate in structural firefighting PPE and Self‑Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA). Demonstrates the ability to safely wear PPE including respirators and protective suits. Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills with a high level of initiative. Must have working‑level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English. Preferred Qualifications: 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in emergency response or related operations. Industrial firefighting experience within manufacturing, chemical, or high‑hazard environments. Experience supporting emergency response programs within a manufacturing or industrial setting. Strong working knowledge of OSHA 1910 standards and regulations. Experience with emergency preparedness planning, drills, and multi‑agency coordination. Physical Demands: Physical Activities: Percentage of time equal to 100% during the normal workday the employee is required to: Sit: 10% Walk: 45% Stand: 45% This position requires the ability to perform the essential functions of an industrial firefighter in emergency and non‑emergency environments. The employee must be able to: Perform physically demanding work while wearing full structural firefighting PPE and SCBA for extended periods. Lift, carry, push, and pull equipment and patients weighing up to 100 pounds independently and more with assistance. Drag or rescue victims weighing up to 165 pounds or more using approved rescue techniques. Climb stairs, ladders, scaffolding, and elevated platforms while carrying equipment. Crawl, kneel, stoop, bend, squat, and work in confined or restricted spaces. Operate hand tools, power equipment, and emergency response equipment safely. Work in extreme heat, cold, smoke, darkness, loud noise, and other hazardous industrial environments. Maintain balance and coordination while walking on uneven, slippery, or elevated surfaces. Respond rapidly to emergency incidents at any location throughout the facility. Possess sufficient vision, hearing, depth perception, color recognition, and communication abilities to safely perform emergency response duties. Wear respiratory protection and successfully meet all applicable respirator medical evaluations and fit testing requirements.
