About This Role Digco, a Quanta Services Company, is looking for a welder skilled in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) for underground natural gas distribution. The position involves welding on steel gas distribution systems in the assigned district and surrounding areas, using company‑provided equipment as part of a construction crew in field environments. It is a company‑employed, not contract or rig, role. What You'll Do Perform SMAW welding on steel gas distribution piping per approved welding procedures. Complete welding on pipe joints in trenches and excavations, including confined bell hole conditions. Demonstrate ability to successfully complete a 5G pipe welding test on 4\" steel pipe in a simulated bell hole environment. Prepare welds, fit‑up, align, and clean pipe and fittings before welding. Conduct welding in compliance with applicable codes, specifications, and company QA/QC requirements. Perform visual inspection of welds. Maintain and operate company‑provided welding machines, leads, and support equipment. Follow all safety procedures in excavations, including trench protection systems and atmospheric monitoring. Ensure proper use of PPE, including welding‑specific gear. Work with crew members to support underground utility construction operations. Perform tasks safely in accordance with company policy. Assist with general site preparation, excavation support, and backfill activities as needed. Maintain a clean and organized job site and secure tools and equipment daily. Work long hours and in all weather conditions as required. Other duties as required. What You'll Bring Qualified welder per Appendix C and company welding procedures. Ability to pass a 5G weld test on 4\" steel pipe in a simulated bell hole condition. Experience with SMAW in pipeline or gas distribution preferred. Willingness to work as a company employee (W‑2) with company equipment. No personal welding rigs/trucks required. Dependable team player. Excellent reading skills to interpret welding procedures and safety requirements. Pass pre‑employment and random drug tests. Strong safety and quality focus. Willingness to travel within assigned district and surrounding area. Ability to work in high‑stress, extreme weather environments.
