Company Description The U.S. Army Medical Department (AMEDD) is the healthcare organization of the U.S. Army, originally established in 1775 to coordinate medical care for the Continental Army. Led by the Surgeon General of the U.S. Army, AMEDD provides comprehensive medical support to service animals. Role Description This full-time, on-site Veterinarian role is based on multiple locations in the U.S.A. It focuses on providing high-quality veterinary care in support of the U.S. Army Medical Department's mission. The Veterinarian will perform examinations, diagnose and treat illnesses and injuries, and oversee preventive care and vaccination programs for animals under AMEDD care. Daily responsibilities include maintaining accurate medical records, prescribing medications, performing minor procedures, and coordinating care plans with other medical and support personnel. The role also involves advising on animal health, welfare, and biosecurity, monitoring public health risks related to animals, and supporting training and readiness activities. The Veterinarian will participate in continuous professional development, contribute to clinical protocols, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards of care. Qualifications Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent) from an accredited institution; eligibility for or possession of a valid veterinary license in the United States. Demonstrated clinical skills in animal examination, diagnosis, treatment planning, preventive medicine, and surgical or procedural care. Experience with animal welfare, husbandry, and biosecurity practices, including monitoring for zoonotic disease and supporting public health initiatives. Ability to maintain detailed medical records, follow evidence-based protocols, and adhere to regulatory and ethical standards. Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and support staff. Capacity to work on-site in a structured, mission-focused environment, including effective time management and sound clinical judgment. Prior experience in military, government, academic, or research veterinary settings is beneficial.
