Hardware Integration Technician

Location : Madison, AL

Position Summary

The Hardware Integration Technician performs mechanical and electrical assembly, hardware integration, inspection, testing, and basic troubleshooting of computer systems, equipment racks, chassis, and related hardware. The position works from engineering drawings, work instructions, and established procedures using standard hand tools, manufacturing equipment, and electronic test equipment.

This is a developmental technical position that performs routine assignments with increasing independence while collaborating with Engineering, Production, Quality Assurance, and other functional teams to meet technical, quality, and production requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Assemble and integrate mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems, including equipment racks, computer hardware, cabling, and related components.

· Perform assembly and installation activities in accordance with engineering drawings, schematics, bills of material, work instructions, and established procedures.

· Route, dress, secure, and label power, network, and other cabling in accordance with applicable requirements.

· Use hand tools, manufacturing equipment, and electronic test equipment to perform assembly, inspection, functional testing, and basic troubleshooting.

· Identify and report nonconforming material, workmanship issues, and documentation discrepancies affecting product quality or performance.

· Complete required production travelers, assembly checklists, inspection records, and test documentation.

· Support equipment handling, staging, packing, unpacking, and preparation for production and shipment.

· Collaborate with Engineering, Production, Quality Assurance, and other personnel to resolve production issues and support process improvements.

· Follow applicable ISO 9001, CMMI, configuration-control, ESD, safety, and quality procedures while maintaining a clean and safe work environment.

· Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Education, Training, and Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of a trade or technical school program in electronics, electrical systems, electro-mechanical technology, industrial technology, or a related technical discipline; or
• Four (4) years of relevant U.S. Navy or other military technical experience involving electronics, electrical systems, communications equipment, computer systems, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, or hardware integration; or
• An equivalent combination of relevant education, military technical training, certifications, apprenticeship, and work experience.
• Demonstrated hands-on experience with electronic or electro-mechanical equipment, including assembly, installation, testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, or repair.

Relevant military technical schools and occupational training may be credited toward education and experience requirements.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

· Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and electro-mechanical assembly practices and related hardware, cabling, connectors, and components.

· Ability to read and follow engineering drawings, schematics, bills of material, work instructions, and documented procedures.

· Ability to safely use hand tools, manufacturing equipment, and basic electronic test equipment.

· Basic knowledge of electrical testing and troubleshooting, including identifying and reporting workmanship, component, or documentation discrepancies.

· Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately complete production, inspection, and test documentation.

· Ability to prioritize work, adapt to changing production requirements, and perform routine assignments independently or as part of a cross-functional team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience integrating equipment racks, ruggedized computer systems, servers, network equipment, or similar electronic systems.
• Experience with cable installation, routing, dressing, labeling, and wire management.
• Experience using electronic test equipment such as multimeters, cable testers, oscilloscopes, or analyzers.
• Experience in defense, aerospace, military, industrial electronics, or other controlled manufacturing environments.
• Familiarity with ISO 9001, CMMI, ESD controls, and configuration-controlled production environments.
• Technical certification or training in electronics, electro-mechanical assembly, cable fabrication, soldering, or a related discipline.

Physical Requirements

· Ability to stand, sit, kneel, bend, reach, and perform assembly work for extended periods, including overhead work.

· Manual dexterity to use hand tools, install components, and route cabling.

· Ability to safely lift and move materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, with assistance when appropriate.

Scopre and Responsibilities

Performs hardware and electro-mechanical assembly and integration, integration, testing, and basic troubleshooting using established procedures. Performs routine assignments with increasing independence, works to complete assigned objectives within target schedules, and elevates non-routine issues to appropriate Production, Engineering, or Quality personnel.

Responsible for accurate and timely completion of production documentation and timekeeping, including proper recording of labor to assigned projects and activities.

Work Environment

Work is primarily performed in a production, integration, warehouse, or laboratory environment. The standard work schedule is four (4) 10-hour days per week. Activities and priorities may vary based on production schedules, customer requirements, testing, and delivery commitments. The employee must adapt to changing priorities while maintaining quality, safety, and documentation requirements.
