Gauntt Koen Binney & Kidd, LLP (GKBK) is seeking an experienced Senior Paralegal to join our Dallas office. This position is ideal for a highly organized and proactive litigation paralegal with substantial personal injury defense experience who is comfortable independently managing cases from initial assignment through resolution or trial.

The Senior Paralegal will work closely with attorneys, clients, insureds, claims professionals, experts, and other members of the litigation team. The successful candidate will have strong knowledge of Texas civil litigation procedures, excellent organizational and written communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple active matters and competing deadlines with minimal supervision.

Paralegal will be expected to support the litigation team that handles primarily commercial trucking defense consisting of 1 partner and 2-3 associates.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a high-volume litigation caseload from initial assignment through discovery, mediation, settlement, and trial.
• Draft and assist with discovery requests and responses, FOIA requests, medical/employment/investigative records, expert designations, subpoenas, notices, authorizations, motions, and other litigation documents.
• Coordinate and manage written discovery, including tracking responses, supplements, objections, and outstanding items.
• Obtain, organize, review, and summarize medical records, billing records, expert files, employment records, and other damages-related documentation.
• Prepare detailed medical chronologies, damages summaries, and case-related reports.
• Analyze and summarize discovery responses and records to identify missing information, inconsistencies, and issues requiring attorney follow-up.
• Coordinate depositions, independent medical examinations, mediations, meetings, hearings, expert inspections, and other litigation events.
• Assist with expert retention and maintain expert records, reports, materials, and deadlines.
• Maintain and monitor docket control orders, discovery deadlines, court deadlines, hearings, depositions, mediations, and trial settings.
• Prepare attorneys for depositions, mediations, hearings, and trials, including organization of exhibits, records, witness materials, and trial notebooks.
• File pleadings and other documents in Texas state and federal courts and ensure compliance with applicable filing requirements and deadlines.
• Communicate professionally with clients, insureds, claims professionals, opposing counsel, experts, medical providers, court personnel, and vendors.
• Assist attorneys with carrier reporting requirements and preparation of case evaluations, status reports, and supporting documentation.
• Maintain complete and organized electronic case files and ensure documents, correspondence, and case information are accurately maintained.
• Enter time contemporaneously and comply with client billing guidelines, including applicable task and activity coding requirements.
• Proactively identify upcoming deadlines, outstanding discovery, missing records, and other issues requiring attention.
• Provide guidance and support to less-experienced paralegals and legal assistants when appropriate.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of substantive litigation paralegal experience, with significant experience in insurance defense and/or personal injury defense. Commercial trucking defense is strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple litigation matters and deadlines.
• Strong working knowledge of Texas civil litigation procedures, discovery practices, court rules, and docket management.
• Strong experience reviewing and summarizing medical and billing records and preparing medical chronologies.
• Experience supporting attorneys through depositions, mediations, expert discovery, and trial preparation.
• Proficiency with Texas e-filing systems and electronic case/document management systems.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Word, Outlook, and Excel.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritize assignments, anticipate attorney needs, and work effectively in a deadline-driven environment.
• Ability to work independently while functioning collaboratively as part of a litigation team.
• Professional judgment and discretion when handling confidential and sensitive information.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience working for a civil defense or insurance defense law firm.
• Experience working directly with insurance carriers and claims professionals.
• Familiarity with carrier billing guidelines and UTBMS billing requirements.
• Trial preparation experience.
