Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Sheet Metal Mechanic to join a precision sheet metal manufacturing team specializing in prototype and custom fabrication. This role is ideal for a skilled fabricator with extensive experience producing high-quality, low-volume sheet metal components that meet strict engineering specifications and quality standards.

The successful candidate will fabricate, assemble, and finish sheet metal parts for industrial and commercial applications while working closely with engineering and production teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Fabricate sheet metal parts and assemblies using hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment.
• Set up and operate machinery including:
• • Press Brakes
  • Shears
  • Punches
  • Rollers
  • Saws
  • Forming Equipment
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, CAD drawings, work orders, and technical specifications.
• Measure, cut, bend, punch, and form sheet metal materials including steel, aluminum, and stainless steel.
• Perform mechanical assembly using rivets, fasteners, hardware, and fittings.
• Weld, tack weld, or spot weld components as required (depending on experience and certifications).
• Deburr, grind, polish, and finish fabricated parts to meet dimensional and cosmetic standards.
• Inspect completed parts to ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance with engineering tolerances.
• Troubleshoot fabrication issues and make necessary adjustments.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Follow all company safety procedures, quality standards, and production requirements.
• Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and quality personnel to achieve production goals.

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum 10 years of hands-on experience in sheet metal fabrication or precision manufacturing.
• Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
• Excellent measuring, layout, and fabrication skills.
• Experience working with tight tolerances and precision components.
• Proficiency using fabrication machinery, shop equipment, and hand tools.
• Solid understanding of sheet metal fabrication techniques and metal properties.
• Ability to safely lift and handle sheet metal materials throughout the workday.

Preferred Qualifications

• Trade school certification or completion of a Sheet Metal/Fabrication apprenticeship.
• Welding experience or certifications (MIG, TIG, or Resistance Welding).
• Experience in prototype, custom fabrication, or low-to-mid volume manufacturing.
• Familiarity with CNC Punch Press and CNC Press Brake operations.
• Experience working within Lean Manufacturing or Quality Management Systems.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, and manual handling of materials.
• Ability to safely lift, carry, and position sheet metal components.
• Comfortable working around fabrication machinery and sharp metal materials.

Work Environment

• Manufacturing/fabrication shop environment.
• Exposure to industrial equipment, machine noise, vibration, oils, and sharp metal edges.
• Required use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
