Special Education Teacher

Provide direct special education instruction in accordance with students’ IEPs Develop and implement standards-based lessons aligned with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks Use evidence-based instructional strategies to support students’ academic, behavioral, social, and communication needs Differentiate instruction and modify curriculum for diverse learners Use assessments, progress-monitoring tools, and data to inform instruction and adjust interventions Participate in evaluations, reevaluations, and eligibility determinations Write and maintain high-quality IEPs, progress reports, records, and documentation Maintain compliance with IDEA and Massachusetts special education regulations Collaborate with general education teachers through inclusion and co-teaching models Consult with related service providers to coordinate student support Communicate with families about student progress, services, and concerns Participate in team meetings, IEP meetings, and professional learning communities Implement student empowerment plans and positive behavioral supports Create a safe, structured, and inclusive classroom environment Support students’ social-emotional and self-advocacy skills Maintain confidentiality and comply with ethical and legal standards Participate in DESE professional development and continuous professional learning Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required Select, store, order, issue, and inventory classroom equipment, materials, and supplies Requirements Massachusetts Educator License in Special Education, such as Moderate Disabilities 5–12 Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and Massachusetts Special Education Regulations Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills Valid driver’s license in good standing required Computer literacy in Windows, Word, and Excel Preferred experience with IEP development software such as Aspen or Frontline/ESPED Preferred experience in inclusive, sub-separate, resource room, or therapeutic classroom settings Preferred training in Applied Behavior Analysis, de-escalation strategies, or assistive technology Must be vaccinated against influenza as a condition of employment Core Competencies Demonstrates expertise in providing special education instruction aligned with IEPs and Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, utilizing evidence-based strategies to support diverse learners.
