Clinical Role

Join an established outpatient oncology and hematology practice in New Ulm, Minnesota, providing comprehensive medical oncology coverage in a connected clinic and infusion center. This 6-month locums opportunity is designed for a physician who can provide consistent coverage throughout the assignment, with an option to extend. The practice is targeting a November 9, 2026 start for credentialing purposes but may be able to obtain emergency privileges for an earlier start.

The facility may consider splitting coverage between two locums providers.

Schedule:

• Monday-Friday
• 8:00 AM-4:30 PM
• Outpatient clinic and infusion center
• Onsite coverage strongly preferred
• One provider throughout the contract preferred
• Some telehealth coverage may be considered

Adults with broad oncology and hematology needs

Patient Volume:

Approximately 13-20 patients per day

Clinical Scope:

The provider will manage patients across the full continuum of outpatient oncology care, including:

• New patient consultations
• Diagnosis
• Treatment planning
• Chemotherapy oversight
• Immunotherapy
• Ongoing disease management
• Follow-up care
• Oncology supportive therapies
• Active hematologic conditions

Cancer Types & Conditions

Common Clinical Population:

• Solid tumor cancers
• Hematologic conditions requiring active management
• Broad outpatient oncology and hematology cases

Oncology Services:

• Chemotherapy
• Immunotherapy
• Oncology supportive therapies
• Disease surveillance and follow-up
• Treatment management

Radiation:

Radiation oncology is outside the scope of this position.

Infusion & Treatment Center

The clinic operates as a connected clinic and infusion model, allowing providers to manage patients throughout diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up.

Infusion Center Includes:

• 9 open infusion chairs
• 2 private infusion treatment rooms
• 2 fast-track triage rooms

The infusion team is structured to support high-acuity oncology treatments and safe administration and monitoring of therapies.

• Imaging
• Nuclear medicine
• PET scan
• CT
• MRI
• Ultrasound
• On-site laboratory for blood draws
• Palliative care
• Telehealth services

Clinical Trials

Eligible patients have access to clinical trials through MMCORC and NCI-supported research programs.

New Ulm has a dedicated research nurse supporting clinical research activities.

Practice Environment

The practice is outpatient-focused and provides strong nursing and operational support.

• RN Oncology Nurse Navigator
• Clinic RNs
• LPNs
• CMAs
• Oncology provider coordinator access

Clinic Facilities:

• 5 clinic exam rooms
• Attached infusion department
• Open infusion chairs
• Private treatment rooms
• Fast-track triage rooms

Support & Team Structure

Clinical Support:

• LPN support
• RN support
• APP support being added
• Oncology Nurse Navigator
• Clinic nursing team
• Oncology provider coordinator
• Dedicated research nurse

The provider will have strong operational and nursing support and will not be expected to manage the practice independently.

Requirements

• Medical Oncology experience - Required
• Active Minnesota Medical License - Required for quick start
• IMLC accepted
• Ability to provide outpatient Hematology/Oncology care
• Full-time availability highly preferred
• Willingness to provide onsite coverage strongly preferred

Credentialing

The facility is targeting November 9, 2026 for credentialing purposes. Emergency privileges may potentially be available for a qualified provider who is able to start sooner.
