Summary This position is responsible for clinical management of all patients receiving advanced clinical therapies that support the cardiopulmonary system i.e., Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation - ECMO, High Frequency Oscillatory Ventilation (HFOV), Inhaled Nitric Oxide (INO), etc. Works effectively with members of the health care team in the provision of care to patients and families. Responsibilities Provide expert care utilizing intuitive reasoning and experience; provide assistance to patients, families, medical and clinical staff regarding immediate and long term needs of patients requiring these advanced therapies; contribute a minimum of one shift each month as a clinical RN or RCP and one shift each month as a Team Coordinator; respond to changing priorities based on unfolding situation; manage ECMO therapy during regularly scheduled shifts; routinely primes ECMO circuits and facilitates the initiation of ECMO emergencies (i.e., circuit and oxygenator change outs). Develop strategies for dealing with complex problems; maintain clinical competencies of core ECMO specialist and RCP or RN annually; accountable for the quality care delivered for critical care patient population. Acts as an expert clinical resource in advanced therapies for all members of healthcare team; facilitates the efforts of the interdisciplinary team; collaborates in evaluation of patients requiring advanced therapies throughout the hospital. Incorporate research into clinical practice and participates in scientific inquiry in order to advance clinical practice; keep abreast of new developments/technologies in critical care; and perform other duties and special projects as required. Work Experience At least 3 years experience in critical care required At least 5 years experience in critical care preferred At least 3 years ECMO experience or 260 pump hours (neonatal/pediatric care) required EDUCATION BSN is specific to those who are licensed nurses in this role. Those that have their RCP license are not required to have their BSN. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS Respiratory Care Practitioner licensed in the State of Texas or Registered Nurse licensed to practice in the State of Texas Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers required Pediatric Advanced Life Support - PALS certification (within 6 months of hire) A Place Where You Belong We put our people first.
